NELSON, Nels A merchant in Galesburg, he was born of Swedish parents in Sweded, July 13, 1840. His parents were poor. He came to America in 1856, arriving in Galesburg July 15. He worked on farms and for the C.B. & Q. Railroad til 1860 when he began to learn the cabinet trade. In 1861 he enlisted in Co. C, 43rd IL Infantry, he was Sergeant, and 1st Lieut. of Co. A, and served until Nov 30, 1865, when he embarked in the grocery business. he was elected City Clerk, and served three terms and part of the fourth, and resigned. he is now serving as City Supervisor, and member of the Board of Education. On July 19, 1868, he married Sarah Nelson, by whom he has one son. He is a member of the 1st Lutheran Churc, and a Republican in politics. Joan
