Has 160 acres of land, valued at $8,000. Held the office of Justice of the Peace, Town Clerk and Secretary of the School Board; member of the M. E. Church. For his first wife, married Rebecca M. PAULEY. She was born in Virginia, Feb. 15, 1813. They had eleven children, five living - Charles P., Joseph, Mary Ann, Nancy and Angeline. For his second wife, married Sarah ANDERSON. She was born in Adams Co., Ohio, June 16, 1821. They have seven living children - Catherine, Sophronia, Cora, Kennie A., Oliver, John, Fletcher and Susie I. Mrs. V. was married to a man of the name EARLY, by whom she had four children, two living - George and Huldah. Mr. V.'s parents emigrated to Indiana; lived there ten years; thence to Knox Co., Ill., where he resided twenty-eight years; was amongst the earliest settlers in Knox Co.; Galesburg was not known when he first went there; did his trading at that time at Knoxville, the county seat at that time; was in the State of Iowa in 1842, at the time of the land sale at Burlington; in 1864, came to Jasper Co. Has a good farm on as fine a prairie as there is in the State.
