11/26/00 Bob and Tom: I, too, do not know the origins of the library, but I sure did spend many wonderful hours there! The children's department on the first floor, and then walking up the huge (or so I thought at the time.......and I graduated when Tom did, Bob) stairway to the 2nd floor where I could begin reading "adult" books. I think the stairway was stone (maybe granite), but they could also have been wood. Does anyone remember about the interior of the library? I was really sad when the library burned. But I can say that I now work in a library that is not quite as structurally grand, but is defintely as good as, or possibly better, than the old Galesburg library. The few times that I still get to downtown Galesburg and drive by that corner, I can still see the library! Sorry for the reminiscing, but it was a big part of school-years life. I hope someone can give us the story of the library. I am sure it is quite interesting.
