Hi We have a book that gives some history on the Publix Library. In 1902 A new Library was completed on the corner of South Broad and Simmons Street. In addition to the main reading room, the library contained the office of the Superintendent of Schools, Board of Education,, Grand Army Room, Childrens reading room, and for the convenience of the men, a Mens reading and smoking room. Andrew Carnegie, industralist who founded the Carnegie Corporation donated $50,000 toward the building. Library burned May 10 1958 was the worst fire in the city history. Destroyed was much of the history of Galesburg, and the state of Illinois and of course Abraham Lincoln Hope this helps. Ned & Marian Witherbee
