Friends, I have given a sketch history of the Henderson church to be posted on the website of Rio. In addition, there were two or three other Primitive Baptist churchs in Knox county many years ago. I don't know much about the one at Cherry Grove. Maybe someone will recognize the names. The Friendship church was located near Hermon, which I think is in the general area of Knox City. If anyone can help me, correct me, or finds any minutes, records, photos, etc., please let me know. - Best wishes, Robert. CHERRY GROVE In October 1843 New Hope Church, near Greenbush, in Warren County, dismissed the following members to form a church in the cherry grove, (near Abingdon), viz., Calvin Morris, John Reed, Catherine Reed, Benjamin Boydstun, Polly Boydstun, Anna Runolds, Mary Blue, Sarah Lambert, and Mary Schole. FRIENDSHIP Friendship Church was organized in 1853 (one source says the second weekend in October, another says August), in Chestnut township, near Hermon, in the vicinity of Knoxville. Elders Amaziah Howard and Andrew J. Goforth formed the presbytery (another source says Elder Cyrus Humphrey rather than Amaziah Howard). There were seven charter members (another source says thirteen), including William Eggers and Nancy Evelin Eggers his wife, and probably Elder Goforth and his wife, Phoebe Eggers Goforth. The interesting experience of Elder Andrew J. Goforth is given in the Messenger of Peace, vol. 1, page 242. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
