A new genealogy database has officially opened to in-person visitors to Ellis Island. This is a joint effort of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation and the Mormon Church. The time period covered is from 1892 to 1924, a period when about 70% of all immigrants to the U.S. entered via the Ellis Island portal. My father and all but two of his brothers and both of his sisters did so, and would be included in these records. When fully operational in about a month, a website will also offer interactive research via the Internet. Descendants of immigrants will be able to download documents and graphics and also to submit copies of their family documents, memorabilia and photos relating to their immigrant ancestors to add to the data presently available. http://www.ellisislandrecords.org/
