    3. Hi, Susan. This part of my Hall family has been hard to find very many facts for, so my data is pretty meager. But....here's what I know...... My gg-grandfather, David E. Hall, was married in Portage Co. OH (northeast corner of state) in Sept. of 1833. Census records give several different "birthplace" listings for him.....NY, or PA, or OH.......so I don't really know when he came to Portage County. We think his parents are Samuel and Silence Hall, a couple born in circa 1781 and circa 1776, and they are buried in the same plot as David and wife, in Hermon IL. I haven't been able to find any more of David or parents in Portage County during 1800-1833. David Hall married Elizabeth Potts, dau. of Joshua Potts. Sometime between Sept 1833 and Dec 1834 David and Elizabeth moved to Highland County OH, because their first children, twins, were born in Highland County in Dec. 1834. Next two children also born "Ohio" (obtained from census reports). I am assuming Highland Co,....even though assuming is "dangerous". The child born June 1838 was born in Ohio, and the next child was born April 1840 in Knox County IL. So sometime between 1838-1840 they came to Knox County IL. There is vague oral family history about some Quaker influence in this family at this time. But I can't figure out what it is. I think that there was a Quaker community in Fairfield OH (Highland/Clinton Co. area) and also one in Fulton Co. OH (south of Knox Co.). However, by the time I know anything of the family, they are Methodist. They may have just traveled with the Quakers (? a guess), or possibly were at one time Quaker, then married "out of the faith" and were removed from the Quaker records. (another guess). From data offered on the Knox County GenWeb site, I've noticed that several other families also came from Highland County, so they may all have come as a group. (?) 3. You did not say whether you had info or were interested in the POTTS line. I do not have a lot, but found JOSHUA POTTS in my files, and his father. Also some siblings, I believe. I will not post here at this time as I do not know whether you are interested in them or not. I have been trying to locate information on JACOB POTTS; his daughter CHRISTINA married my g. grandfather, ISAAC MILLS and both are buried in the Christian Cemetery in Hermon, so the families must be related. If anyone can help on any information on that family, I would be greatly interested. - and will share what I have. - Marna - ----- Original Message ----- From: "K & M Jenstad" <jenstad@pro-ns.net> To: <ILKNOX-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 27, 2001 9:53 AM Subject: Re: [ILKNOX-L] Thurmans from Ohio? > Hi, Susan. 3. Marna, I also have very little on the POTTs line. Elizabeth POTTS, the first wife of my gg-grandfather, David E. HALL, died in 1858 (mother of 13), and is buried in the Methodist Cemetery in Hermon. Then he remarried to Ann DAVIS BARNARD (widow), and had one more child, my great-grandfather. So I am not really related to the POTTS line. The little I have is from a person listed on the Portage Co. OH site, who lists a Joshua POTTS, prob. born about 1790 (calc. from his first child b. 1809), and my David HALL's wife, Elizabeth, was one of his children. I have noticed several POTTS also settling in Knox Co. IL, but don't know how (or if) they are related. In the 1850 census of Chestnut Twp. I find my David E. HALL and Elizabeth POTTS HALL family.....and right next door is Catharine POTTS, age 52, head of family, with several younger people. A Jonathan and Mary POTTS family is a few more houses away. I don't know who any of these people are. Then in London Mills, Fulton Co.IL is Lewis POTTS, who married Emily Bodwell, a native of Portage Co., OH. Don't know who these people are either, but figured if they came from Portage Co. OH they must be related to "my" Elizabeth. So, the answer is that I'm not really following the POTTS line, but would be interested if there is a connection to my David HALL's wife, Elizabeth POTTS. Otherwise, I don't really need other POTTS data. Thank you for offering.
