recently someone posted concerning Fred Lindstrom, the baseball hall of famer with possible Knox roots. I have noted 3 replies and none of them are making it back to the original message. If the original message came from the message board and not the list you must first hit the link to the message board post and reply there. There have been some very helpful comments back to them but..........unless this person subscribes to our list, they will not know a reply has been posted. Email messages originating from the boards will have this in the first 3 lines of the message before the actual text: This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: followed by the URL for the message and then finally the actual message. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tom Lundeen To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, August 21, 2004 11:13 AM Subject: Re: [ILKNOX-L] Swedish ancestor on 8/20/04 1:58 PM, [email protected] at [email protected] wrote: > I'm trying to locate the Swedish place of origin of my great grandfather, who > came to the U.S. through Galesburg in the mid-19th century. Louie: My father remembered "Fred Lindstrom" as a baseball player of some repute, and often remarked that, at one time, he was the Postmaster in Galesburg. I cannot give you a time frame for that (and, as is often the case, it might be the product of a fractured memory). Unfortunately, my father has been gone for fourteen years, so I cannot ask him to elaborate. You have also received an excellent suggestion from Ginny -- contact the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Institute at Augustana College in Rock Island. They have collected all of the registers from the Swedish churches in the Midwest and will be very likely to be able to track them. The Swedish church registers will make it very easy to find where in Sweden they came from -- so that is a good bet. You'll find them at: http://www.augustana.edu/administration/swenson/ Good luck! Patti: Your point is well taken, but there's more than one way to skin the cat (to use an old expression). I remembered that a reply to the list would not make it to the original poster in this type of message, but didn't remember hoe to post my reply to the remote list. The simple answer to this is to not only post it to the Knox list, but also to the original poster -- just as I have done with this message. This is easy to do by hitting the "Reply to All" button. Thanks for taking the time to explain the "proper" process. Unfortunately, I use it so seldom that by the time I need it again, I will probably have forgotten it again! <grin> Tom Lundeen
