I'm going to research my Swedish family from 1870 to 1905 in Galesburg. Can anyone give me some advice on where to search so my time there won't be wasted? Thanks so much, [email protected]
Places to search would include: The Galesburg Public Library Knox County Public Records There is also a Swedish Cemetery in Knoxville, about 5 miles south of Galesburg. I've only been there once and it is in a rural-residential area of this very small town. Your best bet would be to stop at one of the stores and ask directions. I know if you're coming from Galesburg on Route 97, you make a right turn in town and go through part of the town and out a little ways in the country. It is a small cemetery that sits back from the road on your left hand side, but it is easy to miss. It is well maintained. The library has a good geneology section. Public records are at the court house, which is near the library.
