    1. RE: [ILKNOX-L] Messages Containing a Virus

    3. Thanks, Tom. You described them perfectly. The 6 attachments with viruses that arrived each had different names ranging from .TXT.PIF to .PIF to .VBS and probably others I have forgotten. All were caught by Norton AntiVirus using the latest virus definitions (I check for updates daily!!) Bob: This queerly-worded phrase is a dead giveaway that Janice has the Badtrans virus. Her message would most certainly have had an attachment, likely with an extension of ".pif" and often with a "double" extension ("xxxxx.TXT.pif" for example). It goes without saying that you should NOT open it, but trash it immediately (if you have not already done so). This virus propagates itself by replying to any unread message in the infected computer's inbox, and attaches itself to each message. The messages are usually sent out without the user ever being aware of it, so please don't insinuate (and you really haven't) that Jan sent this out intentionally. Hope that helps, Tom Lundeen
