An old trunk, which contained among numerous artifacts an unsent letter believed to have been written by Jayhawker William Robinson was discovered in late 1999. Jerry Freeman, who found the trunk in Death Valley and believed it to be Robinson's, passed away last Wed. after a two year battle with cancer. While his discovery was controversial in several respects, he generated a lot of interest in this topic. Those who are interested in the Jayhawkers of Death Valley and their experience will always be grateful that he shared his discovery with the world and thereby brought attention to this interesting chapter of American history. I am reading some old newpapers in Stark county and they keep referring to an area called Walnut Creek, clearly in Knox county, most likely Victoria township. They also mention a church called the Walnut Creek Methodist church. Does anyone know anything about this reference. I am now really interested in finding the records of the Walnut Creek Methodist Church.
