I live near Maquon and collect any information from this area prior to 1920 or so. If anyone has old family letters, bible transcriptions, articles, obituaries, or anything of interest in this area including Hawcreek, Maquon, Salem, Elba, Chestnut, or Orange Townships I would like to hear from you. Hi, Todd, Are you collecting information with plans to publish an informational book about southeastern Knox County? If so, I will purchase one. I have several ancestors who settled in that part of the county. Robert Ward (1785-1856) and his family came to Orange and Haw Creek Twps. and are buried in the McAllister Cem. John Scott (1810 - 1893) and his family came to the Gilson area and are buried in the Gilson Cem. Buried in the Salem Twp. area are the Grim families. The sons of Abram Richard ( 1813 - 1851 Knoxville) are also buried in Gilson and Maquon cemeteries. Do you have any information on the "Red Chalk" neighborhood which was east of Gilson, possibly in Elba Twp.? Supposedly the Richard family lived there. Will gladly share info.
