Mary... Just to know you "might" find an obit at the library is wonderful! We are a long way away and will never have the chance to look, so anything you might find would be so welcome. Thanks for all your time and energy! I'm so sorry to be "butting in" here:) LOL... but if you're going to the library, I'm wondering if you could check for me on the family of Lewis Stephens? He was born about 1802 in Virginia, married Elizabeth Alder (born 1807) in Virginia. I show them in Knox, Knox County IL from 1850 through their deaths (he died 1886 and is buried at McCallister Cemetery; she died 1887 and is buried there also). They had several children: Margaret born about 1836 (married Aaron Lindley); Sophrona Elizabeth born about 1839 (married Darius Cook); Susanna born about 1840; Naomi born 1842 (married John William Dempsey); Barbara born 1845 (married Andrew J Lochbaum or Lockbaum); and a son, Morgan born 1848 (married Frances Aldrich). Whew! I found this much information about them, but am really hoping there might be something in a local history book or something. It looks like Morgan was still in Orange, Knox County at least until 1910, so there were members of this family there for at least 60 years. Thanks in advance for ANYTHING you can find for me. I'm really at a brick wall on these folks. The WORST part is that I have photos of many of them. Just for the record, should you know of anyone who might care, I just came into a photo album that belonged to Naomi Dempsey (one of Lewis's daughters). There are about 50 pictures in it, and only probably 6 or so have names on them. There are, however, several of those little name cards (like what comes in a graduation announcement now?) tucked into the album. I can find all these names in Knox County in 1870 to 1880 time frame. I'm pretty sure many of the pictures in this album have Knox County connections. SO.... if you know of anyone who wants to look through them, I have them all scanned and would LOVE to share. Maybe someone out there could identify some of these pictures AND end up with pictures of their ancestors:) Thanks!
