When did the following factories close? (If anyone knows when they opened that would be appreciated too.) 1. Admiral/Maytag-----closed 2004 2. Butler Manufacturing------closed 2005 3. Gales/Outboard Marine-----not sure would have to look it up but my guess is it was good ten years ago. we had many friends who worked here. probably in the 1980's. The building is now occupied by Nare. 4. Gates Rubber Company---- is still operating not closed 5. Rowes---I'm not sure where this one was located at but there was a Rowes manufacturing I think in Galva. my mother used to work at it and it closed down sometime in the 1980's. 6. Any Other Major Factories.-----have to look up. B. When did Interstate 74 open in Galesburg?---have to look up. Thank you for your help. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ILKNOX-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Foxie: I worked at Rowe Manufacturing Co. for the summer after I graduated from GHS (1958). It was right across the street (Academy? Henderson?) from Butler Manufacturing to the east, just north of the railroad tracks. They manufactured farm gates ("Cant-Sag" and "No-Sag" were trademarks), snow fencing, ladders and a variety of other products. I-74 was finished long after I-80 was heavily used. When we came back to Galesburg from the Chicago area (often until my father died in 1990), I can remember getting off of I-80 at Atkinson or Geneseo and taking the back roads down to Galva and then to Galesburg. IIRC, I-80 was finished in the late 1960s or early 1970s, so it was probably the middle to late 1970s when I-74 was opened. Tom Lundeen
