It was located on the north side of Galesburg's Public Square. At that time I was trying to verify that the existing building on the northeast quadrant of the Public Square was the building from 1861. This is where Joe the Tailor is now located. That area was devestated by fire in 1861, ironically, the same night that Fort Sumter was fired upon. Nearly as I can tell the existing building does date from 1861. I did not copy the estate probate file but it was interesting and you may wish to contact the Knox County Clerk of the Circuit Court, Probate Division and obtain a copy. One thing the estate included was hearse and the coffin stands, so they followed the typical 19th c. pattern where cabinetmakers and furniture dealers took care of the funerals. Sorry I won't have anything else to offer, but your question triggered a few thoughts.
