Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Knox/856 Surname: ALFORD ------------------------- Dear Michelle, I have no information on Rebecca's first husband but Carlos (as Charles) and his mother Rhoda Alford are found in Peoria Co. IL in 1850. In 1860, Rhoda may or may not be deceased (we have Carlos' parents as Moses Alford, b. 1783 CT and Rhoda Smith, b. 1793 CT), but the enumeration in Peoria Co. IL for Carlos' family is as follows: Carlos Alford 41 M CT Farmer 2000/380 Rebecca 40 F PA William Wisenberg 19 M IL Farmhand Charles Alford 5 M IL Joseph Alford 2 M IL Selina Johnson 12 F Sweden I do not have a copy of the 1870 IL census but it appears that Charles (b. 1854 IL) is still living in Peoria Co. IL in 1910, so the family may have stayed there. If you have additional information on the Alford part of this family (or information on Rebecca's parents), I would be happy to have it. Do you think Rebecca was related to Carlos's mother?
Lynn, Rebecca Smith Wisenburg Alford's parents were Conrad (or Coonrad) Smith b. 1779 location unkown, married in 1803 location also unknown and died 1863 in Knox County, Illinois and Barbery Naus/Knaus b. 1782 married 1803 died 1852 in Knox County, Illinois. They are buried in Etherly Cemetery, Victoria Township, Knox County, Illinois. This cemetery is aka the Smith Cemetery. The family Conrad, Barbery and their 13 children plus a couple of spouses and grandchildren left York County, PA in 1834/5 and went to Ohio where they spent 2 years. In 1837, the entire family arrived in Victoria Township, Knox county where Conrad purchased 160 acres of farmland. The family settled and remained there. I hope this helps in some way. Let me know if you need or want anything more.
