Quoted from IL-Knox list "here it is: Pg. 682 HOFFLUND, ALEXAANDER A grocer, son of John and Clary Hofflund; he was born in Sweden, Europe, April 2, 1857; he attended the common schools in Sweden, and finished his education in the high school in Knox Co. Ill., his childhood was spent on a farm; his parents immigrated to Knox Co., from Sweden when he was 17 years old; he enlisted in the 151st Regt. Ill. Vol in Feb., 1864. served one year and was mustered out Feb. 1865; he has been engaged in the grocery business in Galesburg for several years; he married Tillie Peterson, of Oneida. Member of the M.E. Church for 11 years. Republican. (The biography says he was born in 1857 (as above) but it must have been, possibly, 1837. Perhaps the census will clarify this.) Joan" Since Joan mentioned the census I have added that also Looks like he was born ~1847 1880 United States Census A.
