Samuel Lewis and his family are listed in the 1850 census for Twp 9N IE, Knox, Illinois; Roll: m432_113; Page; 324. Samuel gave his birthplace as Pennsylvania and age as 50. Nancy, his wife, gave her age as 35 and her place of birth as Ohio. 2. The family had 10 members: Samuel, Nancy and eight children. The eldest three children were stated to have been born in Ohio. Cynthia, aged 16, Samuel, aged 15 and Martha, aged 12 were said to have been born in Ohio while Joseph, aged 9, was said to have been born in Illinois. 3. The elder Samuel Lewis does not appear in the 1860 census, but his wife Nancy and their youngest child, Samantha, do appear on the1860 census for Orange Twp, Knox, Illinois; Roll: m653_195; Page: 682; Image: 348. I suspect that the elder Samuel died after the 1850 census, but I have no evidence to sustain that belief. 4. Cynthia Lewis married John A. Buffington on 23 Oct 1853 Knoxville in Knox County, Illinois. They had a family of ten children all of whom were born in Knox County, Illinois. 5. I am interested in the relatives of Samuel Lewis, ca DOB 1800, to determine any connection between Lewis and Hannah Buffington, ca DOB 1785 VA or PA, and to trace the background of Cynthia Lewis Buffington.
