Received my GGGrandfather Douglass R. Howey's Civil War Pension file. Several men gave statements later while living in Norcatur KS who had been in the same infantry division from Oneida. Anyone know how they ended up in KS together? Thanks! C. Gaston --------------------------------- Sucker-punch spam with award-winning protection. Try the free Yahoo! Mail Beta.
C., I would like to know that, too. My husband's GGgrandfather left Stephenson County IL, moved to Iowa in 1851 for 5 years and ended up in Bourbon County KS. Probably the land opened up to settlers, that's what I have thought, anyway. Kansas became a state in 1861 and soon after the Civil War, many people migrated from Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, etc., because land was cheap and the country was moving westward. This is an interesting story about Norcatur: http://www.oberlinkansas.org/towns/norcatur.html juanita > Received my GGGrandfather Douglass R.
