Judy, You want to contact the Knox Co Courthouse in Galesburg. As you said, the records may not have been required but if a family member filed it then the courthouse will have it. http://www.knoxclerk.org/ happy hunting, Patti ----- Original Message ----- From: Jude To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, March 17, 2004 12:09 PM Subject: [ILKNOX-L] Researching COFFEY, WALLACE, FLYNN in Galesburg Hello Knox County Listers: I am looking for the death certificate for Jeremiah COFFEY, who died on December 3, 1907 after being hit by a train. He was a shoemaker in Galesburg for many years. Mabel Wilson of the Knox County Genealogical Society sent me an extract of his obituary from one of the local newspapers, but I don't know who to contact about the death certificate. Can anyone guide me to the proper resource? I understand that births, deaths and marriages did not require recording by law in Illinois until 1916; but since Jeremiah COFFEY was well-known and written up in the newspaper upon his demise, and the obit mentions Dr. Maley was called to tend to him, I figure the doctor may have issued a certificate. Thank you, Judy Ramsay Foresthill, CA
