Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.knox/3802.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have been looking for Annie that you mentioned. So far I have not been able to find her after 1880 also. It has gotten confusing at times as there is another couple Olof and Anna Bengston that are quite younger and living in Warren County at the same time. I have looked through the Knox County cemetery record books at the Galesburg Library and found only the listings I mentioned in the previous forum message. I have looked for all spellings of the name. I wondered since 1870 census I found was in Henry County that she may be buried in that county. Around Galva and Bishop Hill were large and numerous Swedish settlements. In fact Bishop Hill is still an active town that celebrates their Swedish heritage and customs plus keep alive the Swedish holidays. The library has only a few of Henry County cemetery records. I would post a query on the Henry County forum as well. As far as the marriage certificate goes, the information on that is : BENGSTON, OLOF Married PETERSON, ANNA E 09/15/1870 Volume 00E/Page 0089 certificate number 00001745 county KNOX You may be able to send for the marriage certificate at this address below: Knox County Clerk Knox County Courthouse 200 South Cherry Street Galesburg, IL 61401 (309) 345-3815 I hope that maybe someone else may have more luck and can find out where Annie is buried for you. Mean while I will keep my eyes open for her when looking through other records.

    1. [ILKNOX] Historic passenger lists of ships go online

    3. http://news.com.com/Historic+passenger+lists+of+ships+go+online/2100-1047_3-6148931.html?tag=cd.top People looking to track ancestors who emigrated from British ports will be able to search online passenger lists of the ships that carried them to new lands. Released on Wednesday by Britain's National Archives, the passenger manifests give an insight into all long-distance trips made by 30 million travelers from the country's ports between 1890 and 1960, including that of the Titanic which sank in 1912. "We hope the digitization will open up a hugely valuable resource for genealogists and social historians all over the world," said Dan Jones, National Archives' head of business development. The records, available via commercial Web site findmypast.com, which was licensed by The National Archives, also show the passages of trans-European migrants. Many were Jews fleeing persecution, who began their journeys in continental Europe and traveled to British ports like Southampton and Liverpool to catch cheap sailings. During this period, thousands of Britons were propelled by economic reasons to seek new beginnings abroad. Between 1890 and 1914 an estimated 125,000 Britons emigrated every year to the United States, with 50,000 going to Canada and 25,000 to Australia. Trips to all continents are covered with sailings to South America, the Caribbean, West Africa and all parts of Asia. Initially only the period from 1890-1900 will be available but subsequent decades will be put online over the next few months. The lists provide an intriguing glimpse of individual voyages. What, for example, did 40-year-old Glaswegian spinster dairy maid Elizabeth Barr make of New Zealand when she arrived in 1923 on the steamship Remuera? Did she perhaps strike up an onboard friendship with John Woodrow, 21, a rabbit-catcher from Warwickshire? Or did she build a new life with another fellow passenger, 33-year-old London fireman Rufus Workman? Although the passenger lists have been available at the archives' offices in Kew, southwest London, for some time they are indexed by port of departure only and not name, making it difficult to find a particular individual. The passenger lists, which are presented online in their original form, vary. Some are typed, others are handwritten. Some record tantalizingly little detail while others give occupations, addresses and ultimate destinations overseas. Story Copyright © 2007 Reuters Limited. All rights reserved.

They manufactured farm gates ("Cant-Sag" and "No-Sag" were trademarks), snow fencing, ladders and a variety of other products. I-74 was finished long after I-80 was heavily used. When we came back to Galesburg from the Chicago area (often until my father died in 1990), I can remember getting off of I-80 at Atkinson or Geneseo and taking the back roads down to Galva and then to Galesburg. IIRC, I-80 was finished in the late 1960s or early 1970s, so it was probably the middle to late 1970s when I-74 was opened. B. When did Interstate 74 open in Galesburg?---have to look up. My own response. I will check but I think I-74 opened in 1974. My husband was just talking about this the other day and his father worked heavy highway construction at the time. Will repost when I'm sure.

I would like to share what you have and I can share what I have. I have Mary's death record and marriage license. Also, I've taken pictures of the family grave site in Monmouth. Some of the Callahan's are buried there, too. It's at St. Mary's Cemetary. Timothy and Mary had 11 children. There was the first born, Jerry that was in the 1870 census but not in the 1880 census. I haven't found yet what happened to him. There were also 4 more that must have died shortly after birth as they didn't have names. The six that survived were Thomas, Timothy, Michael, Matthew, Ella, and Margaret. I always called her Aunt Meg. She had only a daughter who is still living. We write to each other a few times a year. Matthew was my grandfather who married Esther Fitzpatrick and they had two sons, John (who was my father) and Thomas. I have a brother, John, but Thomas never had children. I ! have more information and, of course, am still searching. Would you like me to send you what I have? I would like whatever you have, also. I'm really happy to hear from you. 3. Have you checked the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index 1769-1900 which is online. You can find it by going to Google and putting in Marriage in Illinois.----- Original Message ----- From: "Kristian Dreij" <kristian.dreij@nyu.edu> To: <ILKNOX-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 20, 2006 5:18 PM Subject: [ILKNOX] 1883 Knox Marriage Hi fellow genealogists! According to the available illinois marriage index, 02-08-1883 Frank Miller marries Sophia Ekstrom. I suspect that this Sophia Ekstrom is a sister to an ancestor of mine, who stayed in Sweden (where I'm from) when her two sisters and only siblings emigrated in their 20's together with their 11 year old cousin in 1881. The cousin, Carl/Charles Johnson, stayed with their aunt Helen who had emigrated 1869 and married a David Niles, living in Wataga, Knox County. Unfortunately they died without kids. Sophias older sister Matilda married a Gustaf Carlsson in Cass, Ill 1886 and eventually ended up in Kansas. I have recently got in contact with their descendants, still living in Kansas - but none of us have any clues where Sophia went? She was born 16th of July 1861 named Johanna Sofia Ekström. So my question is if anyone knows anything about Frank and Sophia, or have the possiblity to see what the marriage record says. thank you very much /Kristian Dreij ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ILKNOX-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
