    2. I am trying to locate information on John Henry Murphy, who married my GG Grandmother's sister Eliza Moore in 1841 in Knox County Illinois. They had one child named Mary, and he probably died between 1841 and 1843. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    1. [ILKNOX] The Life & Times of Mary Wikoff Oliver 1861-1896
    2. Julie Claydon
    3. Hello fellow Knox County subscribers: Twelve years ago, I was in my mother’s childhood home with several family members as we were examining an antique shipping trunk. I noticed an object lying at the bottom of the trunk; it was an 1884 journal written by my great-grandmother Mary Wikoff Oliver. The first chapter describes Mary's upbringing, the area she was raised in and her education at Knox College. Several years later I was given Mary Wikoff Oliver’s 1881 leather-bound handwritten journal, which described Mary's wedding day, honeymoon, and their newlywed lives in Hastings, Nebraska. Those two journals, literally, changed my life. I began a quest to learn as much about Mary as I possibly could and as a consequence, I have just finished writing a book of Mary's life entitled "The Life and Times of Mary Wikoff Oliver 1861-1896". This 248-page biography has 15 chapters and over 100 illustrations. Please visit www.lulu.com/content/591340 or http://www.angelfire.com/ak2/claydon/marywoliver.html if you are interested in purchasing this book. Or check with your local library about obtaining a copy. The publisher is Lulu Press and the ISBN is 978-1-4303-0660-3. Thank you, Julie Claydon

    3. I don't know anything about the Westfall family but I wanted to make a comment about the census entry. My Knapp family (John Jacob and Sarah) was in Knox county in 1850 and later moved to Appanoose county, IA. Several of the children had "IA" listed as the place of birth, which confused me for a long time because I couldn't figure why the family would move to Iowa, backtrack to Illinois and then move to Iowa again. What I finally discovered is that "IA" was an early abbreviation for Indiana. Iowa on the census is almost always spelled out completely. Remember they didn't have standard state abbreviations back then anymore than spelling was standardized. 3. Rose, could your Ebenezer Sr. be the same person as the one who married Sarah Elizabeth Mather? I see that the 1870 Census of Knoxville, Knox Co IL lists Ebenezer Westfall age 67, b. OH with his wife Sarah E., age 54, b. NY. Then in 1880 Census of Knoxville, Knox Co IL Ebenezer is 77 b. OH Par: VA/VA, and Sarah age 64 b. New York City Par: CT/CT I'm not related, but found this entry on rootsweb. http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=rmather&id=I3056 The names and birthplaces seem to fit well with the census information. The rootsweb entry indicates that Sarah was married previously to a John Bergen in New York City. This item is a long shot: I Googled "Ebenezer Westfall".....and one hit was the 1825 enumeration of Darke County Ohio males over age of 21. Several Westfalls....one of them an Ebenezer Westfall (the later Knox Co censuses would indicate his birth to be about 1803 - therefore would be 22 years old in 1825 in Ohio) http://census.dcoweb.org/1825alph.htm [However, now that I just looked at the Darke Co OH GenWeb site, I see that the marriage of Ebenezer Westfall is to an Elizabeth Cox......I think that's a totally different fellow. Sorry about the mislead.] I expect you maybe have all this data already.....but it is interesting to have a chance to "look around" on behalf of someone else. Good luck! 3. Hi Thanks for the info and I also connected her with a lady who she should be related to. and she has info I sent her and I gave her all the info for the IL STate archives People looking for their civil war veterans can now get most of the information online by going to the IL State Archives for Civil War vets,. do a search for your Veteran and when your name comes up click on their name and a page opens for that person giving when they enlisted, under, years served and such. I really like the new format and then you can also send to them and ask for the papers. Doesn't cost anything and only takes a couple of weeks to get it depending on how many they have to do at the time. http://www.ilsos.gov/genealogy/ The link above should take right to this place. I generally just put in the last name and then I get who I am searching for. Have a wonderful day everyone. Warming up nicely in Knox co., IL. 2. The 1878 History of Knox County was a subscriber publication. That is, in most cases, only those Knox County residents who paid a subscription fee had their portrait and/or biography published in it. This is an alphabetical biographical recap and an index to the page numbers of all of the Knox County biographies and portraits published in the History. It is NOT an index to every name in the book. Fargo, Isaac; Date of Birth, Jan 10 1817 in Salem, CT; Parents: Isaac & Sarah L. (Rogers) Fargo; Wife: Elizabeth Chapman. Page 674 I found the above list of the 1878 History of Know County publication list. I like a copy of the portraits and/or biography published in it on Isaac Fargo and on Elizabeth (Chapman) Fargo. Isaac Fargo was a Reverend at the Forest Avenue Baptist Church. They lived in North Des Moines at 1536 Twelfth Street. They originally moved from New York, Illinois. Their children were: Mrs. E. P. Barlett, George T. Fargo and Mrs. W.S. Kelsey. Isaac Fargo died on Sept. 27, 1897 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Elizabeth (Chapman) Fargo died on April 2, 1916 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Any information or documentation would be very much appreciated. I am interested in ordering death certificates on both of them. Thank you, Toni Alldredge ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
