Can anyone tell me more about this family? The Arapahoe Public Mirror of 3 November 1921 reported that Grandma Blackman would depart soon to live with her daughter, Mrs. P.S. Kaser at Galesburg, Illinois. Salome Keiser/Kaser married Elwood Thomas in Nebraska in 1884, they moved back to Victoria, Knox county where Elwood had grown up after living in Nebraska for awhile. Salome was a daughter of John Kaser/Keiser of Elwood, Nebraska, he is buried in Beaver City, Nebraska, he died in 1920 with Emily A. who died in 1907. Salome died in Victoria in 1920. I think there is some connection between the above clipping and Salome Keiser Thomas. Sorry list, I sent the bio to Knox Co. and it was from the 1908 Fulton County History. Joan
Here are two Knox Co. Merrill bios: MERRILL, GILES E. A successful poultry dealer of Avon, Fulton Co. Illinois, he was born in Greenbush, Warren Co. IL on Dec 13, 1862. He is the son of Frederick and Lucretia (Paine) Merrilll, natives of Massachusetts and Ohio respectively. Charles Paine, the maternal grandfather, was born in Ohio and was a son of General Paine who fought in the war of the Revolution. When the city of Painesville was organized that name was bestowed on it in honor of the ancestors of Mrs. Merrill's mother. Frederick Merrill settled in Illinois at an early period, travelling from his home, making the journey to Greenbush by steam. There he embarked in general merchandising, also buying pork and grain which he hauled to Liverpool, Illinois. For 14 years he served as Postmaster of Avon. He died in 1892. Eleven children were the offspring of his union with Lucretia Paine, seven of whom still live. One of them, Arthur Merrill. Giles E. attended the public schools of Avon. He went into partnership in general merchandise with a brother in Avon under the name of Merrill & Merrill. They relinquished the enterprise in 1895. In 1889 they began to devote attention tothe poultry trade. Mr. Merrill is also interested in a store in Greenbush, Warren County. In 1885, he married Cassie M. Snyder who was born in New Jersey. They have three children: Lucretia, Bertha and Andrew. Joan

This pictur was taken sometime prior to 1900 in Knox county. On the back is a faint inscription "J. A. Bulhley Photographer Oneida, Ill." The inscription is so light I am guessing somewhat about the name. Can you give me the dates of when such a photographer might have been in business in Oneida?

Since it appears that the 12-year-old was born in Illinois, but the family isn't shown in Knox Co in 1840, perhaps they stopped in another county first. My Isaiah Berry lived in Tazewell County a few years before moving to Knox. This was about in the same timeframe. Hi all, I am interested in finding out when Lewis Stephens first showed up in the US Census in Knox County. He and his wife, Elizabeth, are buried in the McCallister Cemetery in Orange Township. I'm guessing that he lived in Orange Township or possibly Cedar. Can someone with access to US Census information do a lookup for me? I'm trying to establish about when he arrived in Knox County (I'm guessing not any earlier than 1840s, so he may not show up until 1850). I'm also interested in finding out what he lists as his birth state. Thanks in advance. Matthew Cook (COOK, GODFREY, STEPHENS)
Posted on: Knox Co. Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Knox/714 Surname: Wilson, Goss ------------------------- My great great grandmother, Louisa Goss, was born 9 Mar 1843 in Knox County IL. She was a daughter of John Jode Goss and his first wife whose name may have been Eliza Parker. Louisa's mother apparently died at or soon after Louisa's birth. By her first birthday, Louisa and her sister, Mary Goss, born 1838 in Missouri, were living in Washington County, Iowa with Horace and Jane Wilson. That lists Horace 48 born Maryland, Jane 43 born New York, Andrew J. 24 born New York, James M. 22 born Pennsylvania, Shipley W. 18 born Pennsylvania, Lothrip 16 born Ohio, and Thomas Benton 11 born Illinois in addition to the two Goss girls. Horace Wilson was listed on the 1840 Knox County Illinois census. Does anyone know Jane Wilson's maiden name and whether either Wilson was related to the Goss family?

I don't have much on the Deulen line other than what I mentioned. Also in the family lore, was the statement that the Deulen & Virdens were somehow related otherwise. So far unverified. I shall respond when I get back to my material. M.Barnett

Jan, Social Security provides a copy of the Application for Account Number. It gives the applicant's name, address, name of present employer, date and place of birth, parents names. It's $16 without the individual's SS number, but only $7 if you have the SS number. Mary Beth
for the quick response. Yes, you are correct - it is $16, if you do not have the #'s---I recalled the higher figure-must be the Scotch in me. Jan
The manual application of the person that requested a social security number. On the form is: -- father name -- mother maiden name -- place and date of birth -- where the person lived when SS was applied for -- age -- where the person worked when SS was applied for Probably more but I'm at work and don't have 1 in front of me. Isn't the cost $7.00? Bad things are the person might not know how to spell a name and the writing may be hard to read. If you need this information, its a good thing but can take about 3 months to get. Donald L. I always just paid $7.00. Have they raised the price? Yes, the original application is worth getting, at least for $7.00. It has the applicants address at the time and their place of employment. -----Original Message----- From: Horace Foster [mailto:buckfoster@worldnet.att.net] Sent: Friday, August 11, 2000 1:48 PM To: ILKNOX-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILKNOX-L] Social Security question... This week, while visiting an antique store in Burlington, IA, I ran across a 1872 leather bound Bible with much interesting information in it. On the family record pages are marriage, birth and death records for the LOWENS family. The dates range from 1805 - 1898. However, no places are given. In addition to the family record pages, I found in the Bible several pages written in old script births, deaths and marriages of the GILLETT family of Knox Co., IL and includes not only full dates but places, as well. The dates range from 1805 in Conn. to 1937 in Long Beach, CA. Being an avid genealogist and a native of Knox Co. with many ancestors from there, I could not pass up this wealth of information. I felt someone, somewhere, might want this Bible. I purchased it for $30 and will gladly sell it for the same price plus postage to anyone who would like to have it. Donna
