To those of you who are discussing the SHERMAN surname, are any of the ancestors you are tracking related to the RICHARDSON family lines? Are your SHERMANs in Haw Creek or Persifer Twps??? ~ Peggy
Art, Read your message and thought I would write you a note. I believe we have corresponded before. I am [I think] related to the Sherman's by the marriage of Martha Sherman, b 20 Dec 1695 - died 23 Dec 1774, and Thomas Skidmore. Eventually a Skidmore descendant married a Thorpe who is my great grandfather. I am attempting to put together a webpage showing this Thorpe line back with all the direct ancestors. Not doing any research, just a "this how we [myself and my siblings and cousins] are related, if you want more on the ___________ line, here is a link to a webpage on the _________ line." If you have a Sherman webpage, I would appreciate being able to have a link to it. Any which way, if new information comes about on the Sherman's, I hope to be in the loop to learn the latest. Good morning list - I have recently been priviledged to meet a few folks from your list, who have some SHERMAN connections from Knox Co. In touch now with SoyBean Sue, Jim Ferris, and Pat Thomas. I am a serious SHERMAN compiler/researcher, have a considerable resource of Sherman "stuff", and enjoy helping others with their Sherman connections. Am also working right now on the FELT connection, in IL and into Iowa. If there are others on the list with ANY possible Sherman connections, please contact me privately. I will "unsub" after posting this. Too many lists - not enough time! THANKS ArtCohanaol.com
Here I am again - I am trying to get as much information as I can for my trip to Knox Co. next weekend before I get there. I will only have two days, one for the library and the other to see the towns and cemeteries. If someone has an index for Yates Cemetery, I am looking for ADAMS, Alfred G., Matilda and ? Also searching for: Leonard A. JONES, Darius JONES Still looking for: Francis (may say Frank) McCOY Also, with a land record, does anyone know of an easy way to locate a piece of property. Seems like there is US Gov site that locates churches, cemeteries, etc. Does anyone know the URL? Thanks again, Judy

Is there someone who would do a lookup for me on Charles Clark. I find him on the 1850 and 1860 IL census in Knox county. At this point I am looking for a date of death and possibly an obit for him. On the 1850 census my ggg grandfather, Orin Nelson, was living in the Clark household. I am trying to figure out the relationship between Orin and the Clark family. Also if in Knox county, what cemetery is he buried at. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would really like to get past this road block!! Thanks, Gina in Iowa gklindt@aol.com

July 8, 1800 in Braintree, Orange Co. Vt. His parents were m. Jan 7, 1821 in Moriah, Essex Co. NY. Walter was one of 14 children, and I have info on all of his siblings and also on his and Adeline Turner Felt's children. I am searching for the son of Harry Sherman b. 1865 in Knox Co. and Mary Campbell, b. 1875 in Perry Co. Illinois. they were married in Monmouth Co. and I have one son listed as IRA SHERMAN on 1900 Perry Co. Fed. census, however, child's recently found birth certificate lists him as EARL LEE SHERMAN-- was a delayed birth cert. filled out by his father--at this point I am not sure which name I am looking for --Ha!! I stumbled across info on your Walter in my search for Harry's grandparents --I chased an Augustus Sherman (actual name Oscar Augustus Sherman) who enlisted in the Civil War in Galesburg and I just received his Civil War file last week. He is a brother to your Walter. I would be happy to share what info. I have, and also if you will contact me privately, I will give you the email for the gentleman who shared Augustus/Walter's family with me --he considers himself a "Sherman Clearing House" and has a VAST amount of Sherman info. Hope this helps. Regards Susan Ca.

Judy, Depending on which way you are coming into Maquon on Route 97, if you come from the north headed south, it's the first road to your left coming in to town. There's a big brick house on the corner. You go down that road past a llama farm on the left until you get to a three way stop with a railroad crossing on your left. Turn left and cross the tracks and go on down that road, which will curve off to the right. You can see the cemetery in the distance. If you are coming from the south headed north on Route 97, it would be the last street before you hit the edge of town and you would turn right. I don't have a list for the cemetery, but you need to talk to someone who does before you go. It's a large cemetery. I have no Mary McMurtry who married an Alexander WHITE but I have seen this question before. In fact, I was in contact with another researcher who might know about this connection. Have you e-mailed with Shirley Weber before? If not, here is her e-mail address: Shirley A. Weber E-mail Address(es): saweb@halcyon.com You live or have lived in Knox County, haven't you? If you find out the connections here, please let me know...I have all my notebooks buried in the garage at the present time....we ARE shifting stuff out there so will try to see if anything is in there......I remember your name from all the kind things you do for people on this list....Good luck...and I hope we're "cousins"....Jan -----Original Message----- From: Marna Scott <marnascott@lisco.net> To: ILKNOX-L@rootsweb.com <ILKNOX-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, August 27, 2000 1:50 PM Subject: Re: [ILKNOX-L] Ooops!! >Hi Janice: > >I realize this was from an old message, but I am visually impaired and do >not keep up with this "board" very often. > >I was wondering where your early McMurtries were from. Hi, I got copies for . 50 each from Warren County Clerk, but I understand fees do vary. Warren County did not show parents but the copies are great to have and look at, if nothing else. The following info might help. County clerks are the official custodians of all marriage records recorded in Illinois counties. To obtain copies of marriages found in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, you may write the appropriate County clerk including in your letter all of the information on the marriage given in the Marriage Index. Search and copy fees will vary from one county to another. Knox County Courthouse Galesburg, Illinois 61401 Good luck!
