    1. [ILKNOX-L] Laird
    2. Diane, What is your Laird connection? Mary Laird was my gr grandmother. She married James Wilkes. Their daughter, Valetta Wilkes, was my grandmother. Mary's parents were Mathew Laird and Isabella McMullen. Isabella took all of the children and moved from Waterloo, PA, to Woodhull, IL, about 1855, leaving Mathew in PA. Several of Matthew's brothers also moved to the Woodhull area. Mary and James Wilkes lived most of their married life in Knox Co. James Wilkes was from Wataga. The rest of the family spelled the name "Wilks" but James preferred "Wilkes." Mathew Laird's parents were Samuel Laird and Martha Curry who came from Ireland and lived in Franklin County, PA. Samuel's second wife was Elizabeth Campbell. What I do know is that I am a descendant of the Dunbar family of Knox County, Illinois. In our family we have an Alice G. Dunbar who was born on 5 October 1860 in Henderson Township, Knox County, Illinois. Alice married John G. Wyckoff and they had 4 children that I know of: Mattie (1888), Lena (1892), John (1897) and Frederick (1900) Wyckoff. I think it is quite likely that there were other children born earlier than Mattie. Alice was 28 years old when Mattie was born so it is unlikely that Mattie was her firstborn. I would very much like to have a copy of your Gertrude Wyckoff to add to my files. Please let me know if I can send an envelope or if you have the ability to scan the photo and send it as an email attachment. I'm also be very interested in contacting anyone who connects to the Wyckoff family. Wyckoff is a fairly unusual name and I think it likely that Gertrude was related to my Knox County Wyckoff family. Just let me know how I would go about receiving a copy of the picture and I will be glad to respond. Thank very much for posting your finding. 1. [ILKNOX-L] Gertrude Wyckoff - May, 1884
    2. Marge Rice
    3. Hi, Pat...... I just bought at an antique store here in Joliet, IL a small picture in excellent condition, of "Gertrude Wyckoff (or maybe it could be Nyckoff?), Galesburg", with the handwritten date of May, 1884. Gertrude appears to be in her 30's give or take a few years. The picture itself is about 2" wide by 4" high. It was taken by C. A. Winsor, photographer, "No. 20 Main Street, Galesburg, Illinois". I would absolutely LOVE to see this picture in the hands of someone who is a descendant, or relative. If you or anyone would like to have it, say so, and I will send my mailing address. Then whoever wants to send me a check for $4.00, I will send the picture, carefully wrapped, postage included. Marge Rice, Joliet, IL Hopefully someone will recognize this woman. Pat

    3. I know I should have jumped in earlier, but I didn't have the energy to look for the data. A good place to get Knox County documents is from Illinois Archives. Go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilgenweb/ then follow the State of Illinois Archives Database (IRAD) link. The IRAD location for Knox is Western Illinois U. They do the research for free and bill you for photocopying. I recently received copies of two marriage certificates and documents. The bad news is that up to 1863 at least there is NO genealogical information on the documents. Names and date of marriage, yes. But no ages, town, parents. The one I asked for had a woman of 70, married twice before, but the only support document swears that she is (over) 18, signed by her former stepson. Charlotte

    2. Martha Edgerton (Hyde) Ferris - her Hyde line goes back to William. I have just checked the HYDE GENEALOGY: OR THE DESCENDANTS, IN THE FEMALE AS WELL AS THE MALE LINES, FROM WILLIAM HYDE, OF NORWICH, by Reuben H. Walworth, 1864 - - and there is no Harrison C. Hyde listed, so apparently there is no connection, documented - -sorry. JimFerris
