    3. everyone, for the input concerning records of divorce. Since the husband was in the military, stationed at Selfridge Field, Mi., 1925-31, there is the possibility, that either of the events, marriage and/or divorce, occurred in IL. or MI. I have sent queries to both archives, explaining the situation. All I need is a kind soul-to run a quick check-then I am off and running. Has anyone had any luck finding/receiving military records-ca. 1925-31? Another avenue to travel if the marriage or divorce occurred while in the military. I have the basics-name, rank and serial #, and would/could find the spouse, thru these records. Of interest to those who have Hunterdon Co. NJ. roots. Thanks, must go to Dennis Sutton, who is currently posting genealogical data from the "Hunterdon County Democrat", 1838-1900. Oct 21, 1840, Vol III, No. 8 (112) At Clinton, on the 3d inst., by the Rev. Albert Williams, Mr. James Hedden, to Susan, daughter of Mr. John H. Rodenbaugh, all of Clinton. August 20, 1851, Vol. XIV, No. 1, Whole No. 675 Terrible Steamboat Explosion - Cincinnati, Aug. 14 The Steamer Dacotah exploded at Peoria, Ill., on Saturday. She was bound for Minnesota, for the accommodation of a number of settlers who were on board, and was working when the explosion took place. Eleven persons were killed, and quite a number badly wounded. The killed were, Mr. Heywood and two children, Wm. Baker, wife and child, Messr. H. Foster, C. Van Sickle, three children of B. Woodworth, H. Barnes and Mr. Moffit. March 6, 1877, Vol. XXXIX, No. 28, Whole No. 2005 (post on Fulton/Knox List) Sixty-sixth Wedding Anniversary - A correspondent sends us the following interesting sketch for publication: Paul K. Dilts and Sarah, his wife, were surprised on Friday morning, 23d ult., by the arrival of unexpected guests, consisting of their children, grand children and great grand children at their residence near Clover Hill, Hunterdon county, where they have lived for forty three years. They were born in Hunterdon county, were married in the year 1811 by Rev. Dr. Kirkpatrick, and have had four children, two of whom are now living. Their son, Elisha died in Fairview, Illinois; their daughter, wife of John L. Bellis, died at Plainfield, N.J.... The husband, Paul K. Dilts is 89 years of age, and is enjoying good health. His wife, Sarah, is 84 years of age. They now have living two children, nine grand children and nine great-grandchildren... February 12, 1878, Vol. XL - No. 25, Whole No. 2048 Near Fairview, Ill., Jan. 22, Ann Young, wife of the late Jacob Young, formerly of this county, aged about 81 years. Aug. 6, 1878, Vol. XL - No. 50, Whole No. 2073 Over A Hundred Years Old Died, Friday, July 26th, near Hainesburg, N.J., Mary Bartholomew, aged 105 years. The deceased was born at Oxford, and when about ten years old, moved with her parents, who were among the first settlers to near where she died. Her maiden name was Kitchen. Her parents moved from Oxford to the vi cinity of Decker's Ferry about the close of the Revolutionary War. At the age of 26 she married Thomas Bartholomew, who served in the war of 1812.... As she died very suddenly with no physician in attendance, Coroner Harris had to be summoned and received the body and gave a certificate of cause of death. This is what Bob in Mn. would be doing for us. "Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly." Jan

    2. Donna, that would be great! I'd really appreciate it. By chance, are you researching Smith of Knox Co....My Conrad/Coonrod Smith and Barbara Knauss were parents of over 10 children all living in and around Knox Co....One son, John Smith and wife Mary Gingling and children are from Knox Co. and died there......My problem child, their daughter, Susan Smith is the one I'm seeking info on..... Susan married John Davis of Henry Co. about 1860 (can't find a marriage record) He died abt 1861 and Susan remarried Wm B. Hendrickson 1862 under name of Susan Smith...1870 she shows up in Knox Co., with l Davis child and 2 Hendrickson children and no husband. Davis child,Senith Arvilla Davis in her journal said her mother Susan Smith Davis Hendrickson gave her children away because she couldn't support them about 1872. Haven't been able to find any documentation for any of this.....Appreciate any lookup you are willing to do at your convenience. Thank you. Grace

    3. Not being familiar with MO records, can only speak for IL ones. The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each courthouse keeps the divorce records. There is an index to the names. Naturally, if you know the approximate year this will help. You may have some difficulty if you only know the husband's name if it is a very common name as there may be multiple entries. If that happens and you may have to read the divorce files that match the name. These files should include the names of minor children and location of real estate owned by the couple, which may be the clues you need. The divorce file will likely give the date and place of marriage, so if you know that you will have another way of matching the people with the case file. Hope this helps. If MO record keeping turns out to be significantly different, better get on a MO list for some help. 3. Great idea, but Ithink the donations and sales are what keeps the Society going, and from what I could see you can buy most of them quite reasonably. I just wish there were more weekend hours as that is the only time I can do research.
