I would be interested in getting a copy of the obit for LUCYLLE ENGLAND, also. I know of someone who is interested in the England family, and she would like to have a copy of this obit. Thanks! ~ Peggy
Hi Pat, I have the obit from the "The Galesburg Post and The Knoxville Journal" edition of 27 July, 2000. Yes Lucille d. on 17 July, 2000. I can either type it and e-mail to you, but I'd also make a copy and snail mail to you, if you'd like. The Galesburg Post did not list deceased brother and sisters. Pat, I just checked www.legacy.com which has an obit button - great info... incredibly, they list the Abingdon Argus, but the Galesburg Register Mail - - sorry. Jim Ferris

I have found some information that there was a Justice of the Peace in Knox County around the 1850's by the name of John T. Smith. Would anyone have any additional information on him in so far as family, birthdate, or place of birth? Thanks.
I don't have any Blankenship information, but Illinois has a few on-line databases at http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/database.html I did check for a Calvin marriage and found none, but there is a William T who married a Jane in 1846. Good luck. Charlotte RuABlankenship@aol.com wrote: > Hello Everyone, > > This is my first post to the list, and it isnt a very good one. Thank you for all of the responses to my question about scanning equipment. They were very helpful. As a follow-up question, does anyone have experience working with either of the following equipment? HP OfficeJet G85 Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier - I am considering this for general purpose sheet scanning, but I am attracted to the many additional features it offers. HP CapShare 920 Portable Copier - I am considering this for hand scanning from fragile books. Thanks for any experiences you can pass on to me. -----Original Message----- From: Bob Miller [mailto:Bob_Miller@rdmiller.com] Sent: Tuesday, October 17, 2000 12:25 PM To: ILKNOX-L@rootsweb.com; NYCATTAR-L@rootsweb.com; ILPEORIA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Scanning Equipment I am looking to purchase some scanning equipment. I want to be able to scan the pages of fragile old books so that I can work with the image or retrieve the text into a Microsoft Word for further editing. I also want to be able to easily scan from a volume of single sheets so that I can work with the images or text. I realize that I may need more than one piece of equipment to affectively work with both kinds of source documents. Does anyone have any recommendations?
I had a bad experience with a flatbed scanner. I wasn't an expensive model but if you plan on scanning books, on some models the glass will not support the weight of a book. I don't think there is any OCR software to link these images to Microsoft Word for easy editing. They require retyping. I will be anxious to see what other angles people are using. My primary concern is minimize the damage to the book or other document. I saw this notice and was wondering if your Rebecca Moore is the daughter of William A. Moore and Rebecca Gose who married 15 August 1858 in Knox County, Illinois. She'd have been young then, but I have one ancestor who married at age 15 in Knox County. Joan Nisley Vienna, VA Sid Moore wrote: > Posted on: Knox Co. I love my paperport Visioneer it shares a port with my printer, but you can remove the top for bulky books as a lot of the old ones are. If you are to do large numbers of single sheets I would recommend one with a sheet or document feeder, usually you can scan 25 sheets at a time, if you can find the older scanners they will scan 200 sheets. Also being able to scan large sheets 8 1/2 x 14 should be a consideration. Resolution and color is very important at least 600 dpi preferably 1200 dpi. If you are to do lots of pages the scan speed becomes all important. Don't get a scanner that shares your printer port, they are slow and usually will not work properly. If your computer has a USB ports, get a USB scanner although some of the older USB ports are not fast enough. Another consideration is the Software that processes the scanned text and photos is very important the soft ware that comes packaged with your scanner is usually not adequate. I find that Paperport ver 7.0 works well and that can be linked to a good OCR optical character recognition software. Ensure that you have hard drive of adequate capacity, I have 40 Gb and starting to run low on space so will eventually will upgrade to a 75 Gb hard drive. Hope this will answer a few of your questions. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me any time. Sincerely Mike Baker
