Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Knox/813 Surname: Gunsaules, Teel ------------------------- I am wondering if you have any information on James Gunsaules of PA who was the father of Emanuel. He was married to Phoebe Teel and died in Knox County April 11, 1844. This is probably why Phoebe sold the land since she moved west. I was hired by Orange Township to restore the cemetary where he is buried and his stone is badly deteriorating. I pieced back together what was there but there's not much left. Fortunately, the stone had been transcribed about 25 years ago before it became unreadable.I can get one for free from the gov't if I can prove he was in the War of 1812. I have many research materials available for this area if you are looking for something.

    2. Passing this information along from another list: <<I just wanted to let anyone who may not already be aware of it, the availability of census searches through the Illinois State Archives. If you have the name (preferably the head of household) and the county in which you know or believe him/her to have lived, you can request a search (actually two searches at a time) of the census archives. If the researchers at the Archives can find a record for the family, they will mail you a photocopy of the actual page on which the entry is found. It will include information on all of the individuals who were living in the household at the time the census(s) was taken. Uncertified photocopies of requested records are available at NO charge (there is some confusion among the genealogy community regarding this, but I can assure you that at this time there is no charge) - also don't bother to send a SASE, they will just return it to you). You can request copies of documents by mail, by fax, by telephone, or by personal visit. You can write/phone/fax your request to the following: Illinois State Archives Reference Unit Margaret Cross Norton Building Capitol Complex Springfield, IL 62756 Telephone: (217) 782-3556 Fax: (217) 524-3930 OR, to make it really easy, you can visit the following URL and complete the request form you will find there. http://www2.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/arcreq.s Some things to keep in mind when making requests are listed below. Request no more than two specific names or items per mailing. For name searches try to provide (if you have it, but if you don't have all of it don't let that stop you from making your request): 1) the individual's complete name, age, and birthplace, 2) county and township names, and 3) the year of the census(s) to be searched. Wait for a response to one request before submitting another one. The following is the main web page for the Archives, you might want to check it out to see what else is available: http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/arc_home.html Hope this helps, Karima>> -----Original Message----- From: G Minklein [mailto:minklein@earthlink.net] Sent: Monday, November 20, 2000 8:01 AM To: ILKNOX-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ILKNOX-L] Lookup, Gilbert Swart Denise, On the 1870 Knox Co., IL census index, there is a Gilbert Swart, white male, age 57, born in Virginia, living in Knox Township. However, the virus does spread through address books. The script re-creates itself on the computer of a person who tries to open it, then creates emails for everyone in the address book (probably only Micro$loth products), and attaches the copy to them. This list may strip it off, but if one person on the list is infected, they may (unintenionally) spread the virus to everyone in their address book -- merely by checking their email. Just don't double-click it -- throw it away! Tom Lundeen

    2. Tom Lundeen
    3. Friends This is not a scare tactic nor a false warning. Saturday, at 9:30pm, we received an email message from a person on one of our mailing lists. The message had an attachment named "Very Funny.vbs" - we're not sure what it does. Fortunately, the virus (if that's really the right word) is a Visual Basic script (therefore, the ".vbs" extension) that works only on Windows computers; we use Macintoshes. Tom has done enough programming to recognize what the script does. Here's a portion of it: c.Copy(dirsystem&"\MSKernel32.vbs") c.Copy(dirwin&"\Win32DLL.vbs") c.Copy(dirsystem&"\Very Funny.vbs") regruns() html() spreadtoemail() We don't understand the full impact of it, but when it starts playing with MSKernel and Win32DLL, we know it's not a game. THe last line of the excerpt is also somewhat insidious. If you receive the email, you will perhaps not be infected -- we don't understand what it takes to launch a VB script. If you attempt to open the attachment, we can almost guarantee that you will be infected. Should you become infected, you'll need to find some person or place which can solve your problems. Do not direct any of your anger at someone who might send it to you -- they are just as much a victim as you are. In fact, if you are infected, you may find that you have passed it on to the addresses in your address book! A grim chuckle -- the "title lines" of the script follows ("rem" denotes a "remark", which is not executable code): rem barok -loveletter(vbe) <i hate go to school> rem by: spyder / ispyder@mail.com / @GRAMMERSoft Group / Manila,Philippines Please avoid this attachment if you can!! 3. I am going to send you these pictures, and they are NOT my family, but some girl contacted me before May, and asked if I was going back to Illinois would I look for BOMAR, so I assumed the only way she found me was through the web, maybe the queries, or you forwarded her to me, could you POST a GENERAL Message somehow, on the KNOx CO. sight and say "NEW info found" if you have a BOMAR relative, believed to be burried in Knoxville area, please contact Susan A.Wolfe a sewtx@the-cia.net Then I can send them the pictures. I certainly have no use for them. But be sure they have concrete names,This si A.W. MEEKS, and wife Martha E. Bomar April 25, 1830- Oct. 10, 1902. This guy had 3 wives, all at the same time!!!! So they must have been practicing MORMONS.

If not, does anyone know who has the >church records? Larry: You might have luck contacting the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center in Rock Island, Illinois. They have collected many (or most, or all?) of the registers of Swedish churches in the midwest (as well as others from elsewhere). They will research your request for a VERY reasonable amount, including translation where necessary. You can find their webpages at: http://www.augustana.edu/administration/swenson/ Their on-line lists do not appear to include churches (well, maybe a few), but I have been fortunate enough to have them find some material on my ancestors that was available nowhere else. These were from church records, and they are NOT listed on the website. I would recommend that you contact them to see if they have the required information. At that point, you could discuss with them the possibility of further research. Hope that helps, Tom Lundeen
