    1. [ILKNOX-L] Two More Primitive Baptist churches
    2. Robert L Webb
    3. Friends, I have given a sketch history of the Henderson church to be posted on the website of Rio. In addition, there were two or three other Primitive Baptist churchs in Knox county many years ago. I don't know much about the one at Cherry Grove. Maybe someone will recognize the names. The Friendship church was located near Hermon, which I think is in the general area of Knox City. If anyone can help me, correct me, or finds any minutes, records, photos, etc., please let me know. - Best wishes, Robert. CHERRY GROVE In October 1843 New Hope Church, near Greenbush, in Warren County, dismissed the following members to form a church in the cherry grove, (near Abingdon), viz., Calvin Morris, John Reed, Catherine Reed, Benjamin Boydstun, Polly Boydstun, Anna Runolds, Mary Blue, Sarah Lambert, and Mary Schole. FRIENDSHIP Friendship Church was organized in 1853 (one source says the second weekend in October, another says August), in Chestnut township, near Hermon, in the vicinity of Knoxville. Elders Amaziah Howard and Andrew J. Goforth formed the presbytery (another source says Elder Cyrus Humphrey rather than Amaziah Howard). There were seven charter members (another source says thirteen), including William Eggers and Nancy Evelin Eggers his wife, and probably Elder Goforth and his wife, Phoebe Eggers Goforth. The interesting experience of Elder Andrew J. Goforth is given in the Messenger of Peace, vol. 1, page 242. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 3. Have you checked the book "Bruner, Wooley & Weech Families" by Alice Cole? She wrote all about these BRUNER families. She lived and perhaps still does, in Knox County environs. The book would be in the Knox County library but she sent me a copy to place in the genealogy collection in the Los Angeles Public library. I'm sure other libraries also have it. I am a descendant of these families.....if we can just connect you up, we have the lineage back to Maryland and before that, Germany. Let me know what luck you have in locating the book. The LDS church might have a copy on microfilm...I haven't checked their webpage for that. Keep in touch....Jan Lund -----Original Message----- From: Carl Antrim <cmantrim@swbell.net> To: ILKNOX-L@rootsweb.com <ILKNOX-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, November 21, 2000 7:59 PM Subject: [ILKNOX-L] Bruner Family >Hello, I'm a subscriber but haven't put out a plea until now! > >To ALL who are related to the Bruners who removed from KY to IL: >Does anyone know anything concerning STEPHEN BRUNER m. 1. [ILKNOX-L] Knox County in 1828
    2. Rex Cherrington
    3. Only a few persons lived in Knox Co. at the end of 1828. Daniel and Alexander Robertson with a brother in-law named Mat(t)hews were considered our first settlers by some accounts. William Palmer and family lived near what is now the village of Maquon and likely got there in 1827. A few more of the surnames of persons who either resided or were documented to have passed thru Knox Co. in 1828 were McKee, Gum, Osborn, Scott, Pennington, Coy, Frakes, Greenwell, Sheldon, Voiles, Vaughn, Reynolds, and Nance. The names in the previous sentence are associated with Henderson Twp. Likely there were others whose names were forgotten by the time the histories were collected. Azel Dorsey, Abraham Lincoln's schoolteacher and Hiram Palmer, a Methodist minister who seems to have played a role in settling Farmington in nearby Fulton Co. settled about this time in the vicinity of what became Cherry Grove near present day Abingdon but since they moved on soon after documentation is sketchy. Galesburg Twp seems to have had no inhabitants in 1828, as was the case with most of the townships. The 1830 U. S. Census gives names of heads of households and number of persons in the household, 1840 the names of heads of households and numbers of persons in age and gender categories are given, 1850 started listing children's names. Since there was no Galesburg until 1836-37, you might want to check that source for accuracy. Rex Cherrington >I am looking for the mother and father of my great, great grandfather. I don't know their given names - only the surname, "Perry". One of their children was Benjamin W. Perry, who was born December 1, 1828, reportedly near Galesburg, IL. I am hoping you will look in the 1840 census for Knox County for a Perry with an 11 or 12 year old child named Benjamin W. Perry. > >I'm sorry I don't have more information for you to go on.
