I don't know about your Rambos, but they were related to the Norths who came to Knox County in the 1850's from WVA. An early Rambo married a North ancestor in Philadelphia in the 1700's. She was a descendant of Peter Gunnerson Rambo. I could look it up if you are interested as I have the whole early Rambo family genealogy. Susan
Hi Erin, I can't help you but do you have an Emily Rambo daughter of Levi? This is what I have. Emily Rambo married Clark HAYNES 20 Nov 1856 in Knox Co. IL. Clark Haynes was the son of Asa Haynes and Mary Jane Elizabeth GADDIS. In 1870 Clark/Emily were in Ray Co. MO. Clark Haynes died 22 Aug 1891 in Artesia, Los Angeles Co., CA. I don't know what happened to Emily. On your connection with Todd Co. MN-- Clark Haynes had a sister Margaret b. 1832. Margaret had a mother-in-law Elizabeth "Betsey" PLUMB who married (1) John SWEETSER and (2) Uzzi NICKERSON. Elizabeth and Uzzi Nickerson had a son Levi b. 1836. Levi married in 1857 to Mary Elizabeth HOUSH. Levi and family also moved to Todd Co. MN. I guess what they say to look at the neighbors is always helpful. I thought that the Nickersons went by themselves but it looks like that maybe several families from Knox Co. went to that county also. Kathie from CA

He was NOT a veteran of war of 1812 (some historys say he was) but his sons served in the Civil war. Lapiere was platted along the expected right of way of the Military TRact RR (later became CB&Q/BN). Amos Ward was one of the early directors/stock holder of the MTRR so Piatt had inside info. Mr. Willards store in the NW corner of main & depot is still operating in 2001! It was the only store for several years between Kewanne and G'berg-got lots of business while the MTRR was being built. You can find further info and sources for the abovc in my "book" in the G'berg library-"a history of altona and walnut grove twp" a plagerized and original work. hugh /ps binlaw is hal bern-he needs more swedes to find their ancestors since he has retired and has time.
Good morning listers! I am looking for information on RAMBO's. Specifically the family of Thomas George and Rebecca Jane RAMBO. Thomas is the son of Joseph Rambo Jr, born April 2, 1827 in Greenbrier, VA. Rebecca is the daughter of Levi Rambo born June 6, 1832 also in Greebrier, VA. Thomas and Rebecca are first cousins, Joseph and Levi are the sons of Joseph Rambo. Thomas and Rebecca were married July 4, 1852 in Knox Co and Thomas served in the Civil War as a private in the Infantry Division or the 36th Illinois Regiment. I know they were in Knox Co. They came there from Ohio and VA before that. In 1870 Thomas and Rebecca moved thier family to Todd Co, MN. I cannot find them in the census index for 1850 or 1860. Levi's family is there in 1850. I have found family trees on the internet that link them to a Peter Gunnarson Rambo that came from Sweden ca 1640-1650, but I'd like to confirm all that myself. Can anyone help me out? Janice: We have corresponded before regarding Elizabeth Cannon Champion Mansfield and Mary Cannon Champion. I have just rec'd information that Elizabeth Champion & James Mansfield were married in KY by a methodist preacher. I have information that Thomas Mansfield, son of James & Elizabeth Champion Mansfield was associated with the Christian Church in Henderson Co in 1850. It is possible that the Mansfields & Champions were associated with the Christian Church in Knox CO. Carol Heller, researching Ely, Mansfield, Duval, Wilmot, Sims in Knox CO.
First of all, thanks to Andrew Brott for the great "links" to websites! Now for my question.....when my ancestor, Mary "Polly" Cannon CHAMPION was in Mercer County, Kentucky, she was a member of the Shaker community. We believe she has a daughter buried there (1829). When Mary / Polly came to Knox County, I was wondering if anyone has church records for a Mary CHAMPION which would tell me which church she attended. Mary died 12 January 1847 in Henderson, Knox County, Illinois. Thanks so much for any help! Jan Lund
