I also am researching McConnell. My husband's great grandmother, Eleanor Rita Kerr was born inMinok, Ill July 23, 1901 and married in Galesburg, Ill. She married Fay Floyd McConnell, son of Charles McConnell and Nellie Reed McConnell, of Galesburg. Could this McConnell be a connection to yours? He was born in early 1870, married in Appanoose County, IA in 1899. Sally Young McConnell

    2. My great great grandmother was Isabella McMullen, daughter of Revolutionary War veteran William "Billy" McMullen. She married Matthew Laird. This family was from Juniata and Franklin Counties. The Lairds lived in Concord, Spring Run, and Fannettsburg in Franklin County, PA. There were McMullens in the same places but I have not found William. Isabella and her family lived in Waterloo, Juniata County, PA, before coming to Illinois. Isabella and her children moved to Woodhull, Henry, County, about 1855. She later lived in Wataga and is buried in Wataga Cemetery. The name was sometimes spelled McMillen. Any chance of a connection? I don't know if this will help or just muddy the water. My gg-grandmother was Jane E McMillan. I know of no link to your James McMillan but she lived in Abingdon, Knox County for a number of years. The book "Portrait and Biographical Album of Knox County, Illinois", 1886 identifies her. The words and presentation are verbatim to include the parentheses around Kinney. "Dr. Christianer was married at Canton, Ill., Dec. 5, 1850, to Miss Jane E., the accomplished daughter of James P. and Mary M. (Kinney) McMillen. She was born in Mercersburg, Pa., May 30, 1827. Her father was born at the same place, June 2, 1793, and her mother was likewise born there Jan. 17, 1803. The date of the marriage of her parents was in January, 1820." Marriage documents of her children show her maiden name to be McMillan and McMillen. Some of her children's death records of many years later show her maiden name to be McMillan. My attempts to find her in Mercersburg, Franklin County, PA have been interesting. I find that James Poe McMullen married Mary McKinnie January 12, 1820. I have also found that a James McKinnie, whom I understand to be a cousin of Mary, was born in Mercersburg, PA and died in Abingdon, IL. I would be happy to give you the sketchy information that I have. I would also appreciate knowing if you have developed anything that would help solve my McMullen / McMillan quandary. Thanks for your efforts. --Jack Trauth >>

    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Susie M. LEACH taken at the W. E. & W. B. Loomis Photography Studio in Galesburg, Illinois. The photo was taken in 1889 while Susie is in her "graduation dress". Susie appears to be a teenager at the time so I'm assuming this was her high school graduation. I believe this is Susie M. LEACH who married Frank O. ANDERSON in Knox County, in 1899. I'd love to find Susie's family and return the photograph to its rightful place within the family. I appreciate any assistance you can provide. Thanks, Shelley

    3. You might want to recheck that place of birth if the date 1817 is correct. The official founding date of Galesburg is 1837 and Knox County had no permanent inhabitants until 1827. Hope this helps.
