My records show that a church by this name was organized in Chestnut township, near Hermon (not far from Knoxville), in 1853. The sources of information I have on this church contain conflicting information, and do not contain much information. I know for sure that Cyrus Humphrey and his son Squire Humphrey were ministers here, also Andrew J. Goforth, and some of the Eggers family were members. I have several names of people who were members of this church in a database. If anyone can provide information about this church, or knows of its records, or a photo of its building, I would be glad to hear from you. Lynn, Rebecca Smith Wisenburg Alford's parents were Conrad (or Coonrad) Smith b. 1779 location unkown, married in 1803 location also unknown and died 1863 in Knox County, Illinois and Barbery Naus/Knaus b. 1782 married 1803 died 1852 in Knox County, Illinois. They are buried in Etherly Cemetery, Victoria Township, Knox County, Illinois. This cemetery is aka the Smith Cemetery. The family Conrad, Barbery and their 13 children plus a couple of spouses and grandchildren left York County, PA in 1834/5 and went to Ohio where they spent 2 years. In 1837, the entire family arrived in Victoria Township, Knox county where Conrad purchased 160 acres of farmland. The family settled and remained there. I hope this helps in some way. Hello, This is not a direct reply to your posting but may be of interest. I have a note that says Rachel Hull, daughter of Edward Byram Jr, died in Abingdon, IL, Feb 21, 1897. The reference is "Abby Byram and Her Father, The Indian Captives", John McElroy, Ottumwa, IA, 1898. Good luck. --Jack Trauth

Thanks to the generous volunteer transcriptions of Pat White and Charlotte Babicki, we now have a complete history of Knox County taken from Chapter I of the 1878 _History of Knox County_ on the Knox County USGenWeb site. I hope you will find it to be a helpful addition. When you use one of our engines to search the site for surnames or any other keywords, all histories on the site are also searched for matches. Thank you, Joan, for the information on Andrew Cochran and Josiah Cochran. I think the Andrew you gave the biography for must have been the brother of my Josiah C and the uncle of my Andrew Wesley Cochrun. The information in the biographies begins to tie in with an apparent ancestor of mine, Josiah Cochrun who died in Allen County Ohio prior to 1850 and may have been part of the same family. B. I am delighted to have your response to my query about Josiah C. Cochrun. Most of what you tell me is new information for me, although the migration from KY to OH matches the information I have as does the time frame for the land patent. I show his spouse as Julia (possibly short for Juliann) Demorist, both picked up from a writing of my grandfather, Selden Josiah Cochrun, who was in turn the gandson of Josiah C. Cochrun. I am dying to have more information on the family. I am descended from Josiah C. Cochrun's son, Andrew Wesley Cochrun who lived much of his adult life in Abingdon, Knox County, IL. There may have been another Josiah C. Cochrun/Cochran other than the father of Andrew Wesley Cochrun; if so, I would suppose a common ancestor. Who is our common ancestor? Do you have the migration to Knox County, IL in your information? How can we exchange additonal information? I am B.
