Hi Erin, The Galesburg Public Library has an excellent genealogy section. They usually have a volunteer from the Knox County Genealogical Society there from 1:00-4:00 every Wednesday to help you. The library website is http://www.misslink.net/gplibrary/. The Orange Chapel is still standing in Orange Township. Go to http://www.misslink.net/scenicdrive/orange.html for some background info and go to http://www.misslink.net/scenicdrive/ for directions to it. Also, it you should visit the Knox County USGenWeb site to do some preliminary research on your lines. Have fun! I am looking for a record of the burial of a William Lawton in Knox County, IL, some time after 1870. He would probably be buried somewhere in Truro Township. But he might be buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in East Galesburg, IL. He was married to a Bridget (Byrnes) McGIVERIN on 28 May 1870 in Knox County, IL. He died before November 1878. Thanks for any help that is out there. Bob in Minnesota
I am seeking information on Thompson and Rebecca (Gilleland) Rude and their children who settled in Orange twp. c. 1835. Thompson Rude died in 1848; I am seeking his death date and burial place. His wife Rebecca died in 1855. Her will was proved in May 1855; I am seeking her death date and place. I have seen the History of Knox Co. about the first murder in the county which relates that Thompson's son Silas killed the local doctor, so I don't need this info. I am mainly interested in finding the death dates for Thompson and Rebecca Rude and the cemetery in which they are buried. If someone has access to the 1850 census of Knox Co., I would appreciate a look-up for these households which are their married daughters: 1. LANDER, Alexander (what a mouthful) m. Margaret Rude in 1849 2. LANDON or LANDER, Charles m. Mary Ann Rude in 1838 3. ASHLY, Thomas m. Celia B. Rude. They inherited Celia's mother's land in 1855 when Rebecca died. 4. SAUNDERS, Claiborne C. m. Hester Ann Rude in 1838. History book says they left Knox Co. but I have not been able to confirm this. They may be on the 1850 Knox Co. census. Any info would be greatly appreciated. -- Helen Graves

Posted on: Knox Co. Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Knox/10904 Surname: ATKINSON, ADKINSON, ADKISON ------------------------- Hi Bud, I haven't worked on this line for awhile so it is nice to find that their is a response and that I can get to it timely. Jane Chance was indeed one of James Jessie's three wives. Seems they kept dying on him. Elizabeth Harper was one of his wives also. I will have to look through my papers to get you the name of the other one. Please tell me how you are related. I am a direct descendant of James Jessie through my mother's father, Glenn William Adkisson. James Jessie would be my GGG-Grandfather. Here is what I know of him: James M. "Jessie" Atkinson/Adkinson/Adkisson He signed his name with an "X" He was born April 15, 1829 in Glasco, KY His family may have been among the first pioneers to Knox Co. as history says that most of them came from KY. However, I do not know when they arrived for a fact. He married Elizabeth Harper on Jan. 30, 1853 (1st of 3)in Knox County, IL. She was born on Mar. 26, 1831. I don't know how she died but she was pretty young. James "Jessie" died on April, 25, 1908 in St. Augustine IL and he was buried at the Babbitt Cemetery which if I am correct is in Fulton,Co. IL. Elizabeth was buried in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Abingdon which is in the Knoxville area. I will have to check to see if I have information on the other wives. I do believe that I have a picture of Jessie with Jane Chance. It is only a photocopy though unfortunately. According to my records, James "Jessie's" parents were Andrew Atkinson b. Nov. 14th 1801 in SC m.Jan 11, 1830 in Warren Co., KY and d. 1879 and is buried in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Abingdon, IL. His mother was Millie Lomax who was born in c.1810 in Warren, KY. She is supposed to be buried in the Cherry Grove Cemetery also. Andrew Atkinson's father might be William Addison who fought in the Revolutionary War but that is not certain. Millie Lomax's parents were Elijah Lomax and Rachel Hiatt. If you would like to see a pedigree on all of these people you should go to familysearch.com and do an "ancestral search" and put in the name "Robert Ananius Adkisson" who was born 1 Nov 1853. Find him and then go to his pedigree. It will lay all of this out for you to see. The Lomax pedigree goes on farther. I can share with you family group records too or you can get them off the familysearch.com site. We are lucky that this line has been researched. Please let me know your relation and in the meantime I will try to find out more on Jane Chance and the other wife. Cathy Burke-Overland Park, KS-cburke1@kc.rr.com
Posted on: Knox Co. Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Knox/10903 Surname: Barnard, Davis, Hall ------------------------- Norma, I'm also searching Barnard in Knox County, but I don't think our lines are connected. Mine are "Andr..." Barnard (can't read end of name in census), b. abt 1828 and his wife Ann Davis Barnard b. abt 1827. Both from England, and living in Galesburg in 1850. Then "he" disappears, and Ann remarries David E. Hall in 1858. (I descend from this second marriage). However, I have a couple small items that could possibly give you a clue. I copied some names from censuses, and had included a William Barnard family (that I've now figured I don't connect with). This is the meager data I had: In Rio Twp., in 1855 State Census there is: William Barnard 1 male 50-60 3 females under 10 1 female 10-20 1 female 30-40 Then in 1860, in Rio Township in Dwelling # 1585: William Barnard, age 61 farmer, $1600, b. (can't read it) Nancy Barnard, age 44, b. (can't read it) Sarah Barnard, age 14, b. IL Susan Barnard, age 10, b. IL Marinda Barnard, age 7, b. IL LaFaette Hall, age 10, laborer, b. Mich I suppose Sarah, Susan, and Marinda could be the "3 females under 10" in the 1855 entry. And your Louisa Ellen could have been the "female 10-20" in 1855 census, but by 1860 she married, and isn't listed with her parents anymore. I'm making guesses here. Hope this gives you a new clue.
