H i Pat: Thanks for the query about the Scotch coming to Knox County. I mailed her the information and where she could find it. It came to me via a former client who recognized the Ragsdale name and wondered if I might help her.We had a grand and glorious workshop last Saturday with Dr. George Schweitzer well received and appreciated. Imagine you are keeping busy as the days go by. Kindest regards, Ruth
I am looking for my grandfather, James D. Meikle, who immigrated from Scotland in 1880. I found that name in a book called "Scotch Immigration in Knox County, Il." written by Floyd Ragsdale. The reference in that book was 1880, 7134 pg. 10. I have not been able to find any information about that reference. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you. A friend just received the following from the Missouri Roots mail list. If anyone has Holloway's in their line from MO this might be for you. Grace -------------------- This was in Tues, 8 May, Springfield MO News Leader, p. 5B: Discovery of cemetery halts roadwork--Associated Press-Kansas City-- Construction of a new highway in south Kansas City has been halted by the discovery of a small cemetery dating back to the Civil War era. State officials are anxious to find any descendants of the Holloway family who are bured in the cemetery. If the heirs can't be found, the state will have to get court permission to move the nine graves in the plot, in order to finish a new Missouri 150. Construction workers recently unearthed a marble headstone, dating from 1858, while moving a large section of water pipe. Archaeologists later found another headstone and evidence of seven other graves. The site has not been disturbed further. -------- Please pass this on to other lists. Doris Wilson

Is there anyone that could lookup an obituary on Jane Adkison who died Jan. 28, 1917 in St. Augustine , Knox County and was apparently buried in Babbitt Cemetery. Her maiden name was Randolph and was married to John B. Chance in Lee County, Iowa in 1846. John Chance died between 1871 and 1876 when Jane married James Adkison on April 10, 1876. James Adkison died in 1908. Spelling on Adkison could be Adkinson, Atkinson, or Adkisson. Any help would be appreciated. Bud Martin E-mail address; REMBUD@aol.

George "Thomas" WARDELL born March 1886 was the son of William and Judith INGLES WARDELL. He married Lelah S. BRILES on Dec 20, 1911 in Schuyler Co IL. She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth AXE BRILES. Thomas and Lelah moved to Galesburg, Knox Co. IL. and lived there several years. Perhaps even died there. This is all I know about this family. Anyone with more information about Thomas or Lelah please respond. I will be happy to share WARDELL info in return. Thank you for your time. Judi Rogers Gilker
James M. McMurtry was born in Hardin Co., Ky., Oct. 21st, 1807, and departed this life March 28th, 1893, in his 86th year. Mr. McMurtry came to Knox Co., Ill., when it was almost a boundless prairie, and exposed to the roving bands of the Black Hawk Indians, and located near the present village of Henderson, in said county, where he has since resided. He was a brother of Lieut. Gov. McMurtry, of Illinois, and uncle of Lovicy Brown, deceased (there is an obituary of her also). He filled several offices with honor, and left the name of an "honest man" whose word was as good as his bond, and he will be much missed by the community. There was a large attendance at the funeral, March 31st., and the writer (Isaac N. Vanmeter) addressed them, and he was laid to rest in the Rice grave-yard, leaving seven children. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! We (The Primitive Baptist Library, Carthage, Illinois) are gradually adding pages to our website to assist family history researchers who have roots in the Regular (Primitive) Baptist churches in Illinois. Since beginning this task last week, we have added links for Adams, Brown, Cass, Dewitt, Hancock, Hamilton, Fulton, Knox, McDonough, Morgan, Pike, and Schuyler counties. These links are intended to be tools to direct people who have family connections, to find us. We could not possibly enter all the detailed information on these links, but maybe this will be of help to some. To view the webpage links go to: http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/pbl.html or go directly to the Family History Assistance page at: http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/FamHist.html Best wishes, Robert Webb, Director ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Posted on: Knox Co. Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Il/Knox/11005 Surname: ARMSTRONG, BOMAR, COX, KELLY ------------------------- I think I responded privately to this message. But my memory isn't that good--and Wilson and Elizabeth (Freeman) Bomar had roughly 85 grandchildren, which really taxes it (my memory). Anyway, thanks. The child of George and Martha (Cox) Armstrong was Eliza Armstrong, born circa 1879 (don't know what happened to her). And I presume that Stella Kelly was Estella Kelly, born about 1878, and a daughter of Milton and Emma (Cox) Kelly. Emma and Martha were sisters. Cox and some of the surnames the Cox daughters married into were "common" or "frequent" surnames; thus I have had difficulty following them through censuses and other records.
Posted on: Knox Co. Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Knox/11004 Surname: Ogle, Rutherford ------------------------- I located a record for Nancy Ogle b. 1772 which stated that she married Larkin Rutherford and died in Crescant City Illinois. Can anyone substantiate this? Dolly

Last child, a son of original couple, John H. White, born in America and married in Piatt county Illinois Mary W. "Mollie" Mace 12 Dec 1878 in Monticello Piatt County IL. He moved to Creston, Union Cty IA with brother Joseph and was living there in 1888 at time of aforementioned estate settlement. I have located some of his descendants but he may have had siblings Earl, Ray F., and Esther. If they have any descendants, I would like to find them. It's a big order, I know, but if I get it archived perhaps someone down the line will make a connection. If anyone has an index so I would know what film to order, that would be a great help.
Hi Barb, I found 2 listings for BOMAR in the Knoxville cemetery. Martha E. BOMAR MEEKS, wife, 25 April 1830 - 19 October 1901. (It doesn't say who she is the wife of, but I suspect she was the wife of A.W. because there is a listing for: James A. MEEKS, son of A.W. & M.E. d. 3 Sept. 1856 aged 2y1m8d. This stone is apparently near Martha's stone. Rosanna H. BOMAR FUQUA wife of Daniel 4 July 1818 - 21 Feb 1898. There is a short obituary for Mrs. Meeks in the Galesburg paper of October 1901. Do you want it? There are also BOMER/BONAR/BONER individuals in the 1850 census. Donna At 07:03 PM 5/6/01 -0400, you wrote: >Donna, > >Would you please check your Knoxville cemetery book for BOMAR.
