Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Knox/11056 Surname: LATIMER, WEST ------------------------- I found a bio. sketch on a Jacob Alexander Latimer, who was a son of Jonathan and Nancy (West) Latimer, of Knox County IL. Is this your Jonathan? The Knox County GenWeb coordinator will be posting this bio. for me (Jacob moved to southern MN, and that is the county book I found him in.) Jacob's siblings are not mentioned, but the sketch gives a small amount of info on Jonathan and Nancy Latimer.

Hi, Wish I could help you, but the only Starkey name I have is Samuel or Jacob Starkey that married America E. Evans 1870 Bates Co. They had two children Rosa and Jesse. None of the children were with America on 1880 census. America marry A.C. Chittenden 1882 Bates Co... By 1900 Jesse is living with her and husband A.C. Chittenden. Per America's probate, Jesse and Rosa are both listed. I don't know what happen to Samuel or Jacob Starkey. Don't know if him and America divorced, or he if he died... Also haven't a clue as to why young Starkey children were not with America on 1880 Bates Co. census.Sorry, I don't have any info on General Starkey for you....Grace

Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Knox/11054 Surname: Adkisson, Chance ------------------------- I have Bible records that say that James Adkisson and Jane Chance were married on April 9, 1876. The marriage license says that JamesAdkisson of St. Augustine, Knox County Illinois and Jane Chance of St. Augustine Knox County Illinois were by me united together in Holy Matrimony on the "tenth" day of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and 76. In Presence of A.J. Adkisson and Wife A.R. Louder (spelling??) and something in { } I cannot make out. So, they were either married on the 9th as it says under the page where marriages were recorded or on the 10th as the actual marriage license says. See my new postings if you haven't yet. Cathy
Posted on: Knox Co. Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Knox/11053 Surname: Adkisson, Chance ------------------------- Hi Bud, It was actually me and not Judy who you were responding to about the picture of James and Jane. She also is looking for information on Jane Chance so you two should definitely compare notes. I don't know if I told you that my father has had a terrible brain injury. I have not been doing much genealogy. Last night I started to sort through my papers again and you will never guess what I found! I know that I told you I had that really bad photocopy and I don't know who has the original picture and that I had a few Bible entries regarding James. Well, I found a photocopy of James and Janes marriage license! There is something else that you both should know. If you were to go to http://www2.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/marriage you would get search results for James' marriages. Included here you will find Jane "CHANT". This is an error but it is your Jane Chance. They were married in Knox. There is also something peculiar on the marriage page out of the Bible. It has James' last name spelled as "Adkinson" when he was married to Sarah J. Hartley but as "Adkisson when married to Elizabeth Harper and to Jane Chance. Something else I found interesting.......Jane's husband before James was John B. Chance. Well, I have his date of death recorded in this Bible too. I find that odd. His date of death was Sept. 26, 1871. WHO is Sarah P. Chance????????? Her death is recorded right under John's as Sept. 26, 1854. Do you know?? Maybe if you don't Judy does?? Well, don't worry about paying for these photocopies that I will indeed send to you. They aren't of the best quality. I look forward to hearing from you! Cathy

Todd, Thanks for your reply. Very good possibility this is Sarah on the 1860 census who married Daniel Evans. I'm not researching the Kinser line. Just through info out if someone was interested as to what happen to them after leaving Knox Co...... Grace
Grace Jesse Kinser had a daughter listed as Sally Ann age 16 in 1860 census. Sally, of course, was a very common nickname for Sarah. It's in the mail. Thanks ever so much. I really appreciate it. Now, maybe I will be able to work on some more members of the Hudson family. The two Hudson sisters will trace back to the Putnam families of New England. Some of this research has been done throught the DAR. The Jeraulds also go back to New England through the Gorton famlies of Rhode Island. Maria L Hudson and husband Harvey Jerauld are my gggg grandparents. Sharon, This is Adam's bio from Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois and Knox County 1899. Note to Bob, this isn't posted on site yet. Kinser, Adam; Farmer, Soldier, and Miner; born in Haw Creek Township, March 1, 1839, and educated in Maquon. His father, Jesse Kinser, and his granfather Elisha Kinser, were born at Lynchburg, Virginia. Mr. Jesse Kinser was a farmer who went to Indiana where he married Phoebe Housh, a native of Lawrence County, Indiana, and the daughter of Adam Housh. Mr. Jesse Kinser came to Knox County in 1837 and settled in the northeast corner of Chestnut Township. Mr. Adam Kinser was engaged in farming until his enlistment in Company A, Fourteenth Illinois Calvary. After an honorable discharge at Camp Nelson, Kentucky, December 13, 1864, he returned home and has since been granted a pension for injuries recieved during the war. In the Spring of 1866, he journeyed overland to Virginia City, Montana, his company having several skirmishes with the Indians en route. After six years of rough but enjoyable mining life he returned to Knox County, but went West again to Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas, where he successfully invested some money in a threshing machine and dealt in real estate for several years. November 27, 1872, he was married to Olive Straley at West Point, Missouri. She is the daughter of Elias and Elizabeth (Edge) Straley, of Virginia and Ohio, respectively. Elias Straley kept a hotel in Independence, Missouri, and then began farming in Miami County, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Kinser have six children: William C., Alva A., Maud May, Emma Myrtle, Robert L., and Cecil K. On the death of his father, he returned to Knox County and has resided in Maquon since 1880. After a short period of business life he retired and in 1897, was re-elected Police Justice, an office which he has filled with great tact and ability. In politics, he is a republican. I've got lots of info on the Housh's and live in a house that was built by the Kinser family. Todd in Maquon At 12:00 PM 6/1/01 -0600, you wrote: >Posted on: Knox Co. <How did you find out that Laura was buried in the Kightlinger Cemetery? (I would like to see if Jacob & Maria, or any other ancestors were).> That's what I get for getting careless with sources. I think I found it in a film at the local Family History Center for Knox County cemeteries and I think the Kightlinger cemetery was on that. I thought it was in my family genealogy but I see that that info is not. I need to learn to be more careful about sources. I believe the cemetery records are where I picked up the dates on Laura because they aren't in the family genealogy. What I failed to do is look at my family genealogy before I posted (don't have all data entered yet into my genealogy program). Ref: The Descendants of Nathaniel Hurlbutt, compiled by Edith H. Hurlbutt, private printing 1970. Here is the entry for Laura Hurlbutt on page 22: 73. LAURA HURLBUTT8 (Asa7, Nathaniel6, Nathaniel5, Gideon4, Thomas3, Thomas2, Thomas1) m. Llad Kightlinger, Elba, Ill. Children: 150. Ina, died in infancy 151. Harlan, raised by Sarah Griffin, his mother's sister. He married, had 2 or 3 children. He d. -- his family living in Missouri or Nebraska. That's all I have on that part of the family. I'm not researching Kightlinger but I like to have all the children of the generation which ties into my genealogy, if possible. Thanks for your input; it is appreciated.
