I am specifically trying to find the parents of Jack "Janus" HARRIS bn 1915 in Galesburg, IL. His father's name may have been James HARRIS but I have no idea as to his mother's name. Do you know anyone perhaps offline who may be researching this family name there too? Thank you, Patti
I have just started receiving a lot of messages from a "Janice Katherine Lund" that quote a message from me (Bob Miller). Each of the messages has included a variation of a virus. An example of one of the messages is listed below. Rest assured that these messages are NOT coming from me or from RootsWeb. It is possible someone is deliberately sending these messages to anyone active on the Knox County list. Please be very careful if you receive any message similar to that below quoting me and that has an attachment. I almost never send out attachments. I also recommend that you make sure your virus protection is current. Daniel, I'm sorry to say that I don't have an Enoch Lewis in my line. I have been "collecting" Lewis's for many years, though, and would be happy to check my files for your Enoch if you will give me more info about him. I found this in an 1897 Galesburg paper while looking for something else and thought someone else could use it. Sorry, I didn't write down exact date, but was late May or early June. Persons interested in the Russell cemetary, with some of their friends, gathered at the cemetary for the purpose of holding memorial services and electing trustees. The meeting was called to order at 2 o'clock by Edmund Russell. First in order was a song, "The Fallen Brave", sung by a double quartet, led by Miss Jennie Miles, Miss Georgia Wesner presiding at the organ. Prayer was offered by Rev. A.P. Rolen, of Gilson. Song, "They Died Not In Vain". David Russell was called forward to tell something of the history of the selection of this spot by his grandmother, Patience Russell, more than 56 years ago. Mrs. Russell was the first one to be buried in the new cemetary. Her husband quarried a rock and lettered a tombstone, which now stands over her grave. The next speaker was Rev. H.P. Kline, of Gilson, who made a breif address, and was followed by Rev. A.P. Rolen, who spoke a few moments. "America" was then rendered by the quartet, and James Rebstock, of Gilson, read the names of the soldiers buried here and directed the work of a dozen little girls, who decorated with beautiful flowers the graves of the fallen heroes. At the business meeting which followed, E. Russell was elected trustee. A few remarks were then made by Mr. Russell. Over three hundred persons were in attendance. The music was excellant, and the speeches were all good. Note that Patience Russell is NOT listed in the cemetary record from KCGS.
To Doris & John, Thanks for your responses on my IRAD question. Moving along with that info. Fran
For many years, I have tried to find a LEWIS family that began in KY, migrated to MO by 1826, and then disappeared. Through the recently released 1880 census I have finally tracked them down to Knox Co., IL. There were four siblings: Emerine, Samuel M., Andrew Whitley and Christopher Columbus LEWIS. The 1880 census lists the brothers; Emerine is still missing. Samuel M. LEWIS married Sarah E. BROADDUS 23 Nov 1848 in McDonough Co., IL. Census (Abingdon) shows children John B, Emma B, Irene, William H, Ada, Lucy V, and Clara LEWIS. (May have been more children). Andrew Whitley LEWIS married Arthusa L. NANCE 1 Aug 1858, Fulton Co., IL. Two children shown on census (Abingdon): William N and Edgar W. LEWIS. Arthusa Nance Lewis married Henry HYATT in 1891, McDonough Co., IL Christopher Columbus LEWIS married Julia PERRY 15 Jan 1852, McDonough Co., IL. Five children shown on census (Cedar): Mary A, Henry P, Vesper, Charles and Myra LEWIS. Love to hear from anyone connected to this LEWIS family. Always looking for new cousins! Thank you very much, Elizabeth Laird N. California

My experience with IRAD has been excellent. Just send in your request and they will send you your copies with a bill. Just yesterday I got a packet of documents from Western Illinois University IRAD with a letter billing me for the costs: "The charge for photocopies at the Western Illinois University depository is ten (10) cents per page with a minimum charge of one (1) dollar for ten (10) copies or less. Your request required 80 copies so your charge is $8.00. Pleae make your check payable to Western Illinois University." I had one the other day from the one in Chicago and they billed me $2 which I mailed back promptly. If you know the charges it will expedite things to pay in advance, but most of my requests I just write and ask what can I obtain and how much. Usually they check for me and write back itemizing the costs, often having the copies made and ready. It probably varies depending on where you are writing. IRAD has been excellent in turnaround time and they seem to do their best to find documents for you . . . so far. The Knox County Clerk's office gives really good service, too. They really seem to try to find your documents and are very prompt. If you don't know what the charge will be, just write them and they will itemize the costs for you. Alice

Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Knox/11060 Surname: Eggers ------------------------- I am needing to lookup the birth record of Mary Eggers. She was born definitely in 1852. Her birth was most likely in KNOX county. Either to a William Eggers or to a Mathew and Anne Eggers. She married in 1866 in Knox County to a John W. Brooks. We are trying to discover her parentage. Hopefully this birth record would show this. Thanks in advance!
