Hi Margaret. I saw all the other background on the Thurman family once I searched. it was too much to type! So I'm hoping Stacy finds it all. I have a Knox Co Davis who I'd like to figure out. Isaac N. Davis married Maggie Freeman in 1880. he was born 1857 in Illinois and died 1920, buried in St. Joe's in Galesburg. I am glad to help others. Somone had to help me get going (and lots till still do). I love my Knox Co roots. ----- Original Message ----- From: K & M Jenstad To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, February 21, 2004 6:39 PM Subject: Re: [ILKNOX-L] Re: Is anyone related to my Davis family? To Patti.....I'm not sure how to get "gatewayed" messages to Stacey, who is asking about Thurman/Davis, but feel free to forward this if she's not on the ILKNOX list. I noticed your terrific response to her, and the names were familiar to me. The older Dorothy, mother of Alexander Thurman, is Dorothy Strange Thurman, wife of John G. Thurman. They are parents of 12 children that I know of, and you are exactly correct........Alexander and Benjamin are brothers. Two of their sisters are Harriet and Mariah, both of whom married my g-gf's brother Harmon W. Hall. (Harmon first married Mariah, she died, and Harmon then married her sister.) I did not do any of that research. I obtained it from the LDS Family Search site, and contacted the submitter, Mrs. Woodhouse. So, she's the one with all the great data, not me. I was mainly interested in reading your data when it referred to the DAVIS family, which I am also related to. However, I'm not sure it's the correct Davis' for my line. My family came from England to Knox County, probably in the 1840-1850 time slot. The parents were James Davis and Martha Edwards. One of their children was Ann Davis (2nd wife of David Hall, and therefore step-mother of Harmon Hall.). Everyone is all tangled up together, and I have been not having much luck in sorting out my Davises. So...thank you for your contribution and suggestions to the board. I do not know Marion Davis. I believe these Thurmans all came from Highland County, Ohio. My Hall family was briefly in Highland County also. I have a Dixon. She is Nancy Dixon b. about 1834. She married Job COZAD. I believe they were living next door in Henry County in 1864, the year I believe she died. Job remarried to Margaret SHAW in Aug 1864. He had a 2 year old daughter, Mary, at the time of his 2nd marriage. Job's brother Henry Cozad was living with the Samuel SMITH family in Knox County in 1870. Any information on the DIXON, COZAD, Samuel SMITH or SHAW family would be appreciated. In Ellis Island Immigration records I found a Carl F Hallstrom who arrived in New York March 29th 1892. I found out about a Naturalization Record with a Carl (Charles) Hallstrom (Hellstrom) in Chicago in October 1892. In death records I also found a Carl F Hallstrom, died March 28th, 1917 in Chicago, age unknown. Now I'm wondering, does anyone know anything about these three Carl Hallstroms: the one who arrived in NY in 1892 (where did he go?), the one in the 1892 naturalization records (where did he come from?) or the one who died in 1917. Could they be the same person? It would help to know the ages for the two latter persons, the age in for Carl in NY 1892 matches my Finnish relative.
