Does anyone know if there is a data base of the newspapers from Knox county. I'm looking for an article that was written by someone in Louisiana who was looking for some Egan relatives in the area. The article was written some time in the 1940's. This is about all I know on the subject. I'm researching James J. Egan who was the county clerk for Knox county for several years and believe the person who wrote the article was looking for him. My Grandmother Bertha Egan Arend Chapman was born to James Egan's son Henry Egan in Iowa and was placed for adoption following her mother's death. I believe that she was looking for her father's family and was the person who placed the add. I have made contact with most of the children of James and Ellen Egan but am looking for other relatives of James and Ellen Russell Egan. Thank you, Dorene Virginia Beach _________________________________________________________________ Get a FREE online computer virus scan from McAfee when you click here. http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963

Douglas Wilson Taylor M. D. practiced medicine in Galesburg during the 1960 -1980 period, or longer. Can anyone tell me if he is still there, alive or dead, or what became of him? We are looking for him for a class reunion. Alan Miller

Dear Donna: Yes I would like to see it. Elijah was John Ead's eldest son, his wife was Mary Anne Foreman, and my Mother has his and her pictures. The pictures are from a studio in Galesburg. Also the obituary on Hannah Eads says "H. R. Eads" and her daughter "Mrs. Kate Stitson". Is that a typo or does the obit read that way? Kate's name was Stilson, and I think Hannah's middle initial should be K or P, not R. Kate Stilson was by then also a widow and her only child (my grandfather) was only 9; he was 7 when his father died. Judge Harvey, his uncle by marriage, helped him with college. thanks for all your help, Edward Baltzer ----- Original Message ----- From: "donna smith" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 06, 2004 6:48 PM Subject: Re: [ILKNOX-L] Kate (Eads) Stilson; Hannah K ({Proctor) Eads > Have you seen the obit of Elijah T. Patti: Thank you for your help. Lib P. Harvey was C K Harvey and Hanna (Proctor) (Eads) by her first marriage. Lib married Alfred Craig, who was a judge among other things. He also helped my grandfather George Edward Stilson (Hanna Ead's grandson by her second marriage) attend college in Knoxville. My mother has photographs of most all of these people, unfortunately most of them are not labeled, although Judge Craig and Hanna Eads both are. Hanna and John Eads had two children, John Jr. who died at about 8 or 9 by falling off of a train (we have his death photograph) and my great grandmother Kate (Eads) Stilson. I also found the Knox County bio on Alfred Craig. Those bio's are wonderful, send my thanks to whomever is managing that program. The below information cannot be correct; it must be for another . I did get Rootsweb.com information on John Eads, his first wife, Margaret Anderson, their children, etc. and lists Hannah Proctor as his second wife. Also lists her name as Hannah K. Eads and Hannak K. Harvey. The K. presumably is for "Key" I have no death cert. but Donna Smith forwarded an obituary. To Lora Thanks for the website address for the Migration Patterns movie---very nice. Pat Salyer
I was just looking to find some Swedish relatives on a site, and looking through some immigrant history, and I thought this was a neat "fact". Also, Is there any possibility that this paper has been put on Microfilm or something at the Library?? The first Swedish-language newspaper, HEMLANDET, was issued in Galesburg, Ill., in 1855. >>>>>>>>>Chris ^--^ (>'o'<) (,,) (,,)

Edward, an additional note that may help you. Curtis Kendall Harvey was born 1815 in Caledonia Co, VT, son of Ira Harvey. This birth record is found on the USGENWEB site for Caledonia Co. The 1840 census finds him in Knox Co, IL, he probably married Hannah before the move. He died there in 1848. There are a few researchers who have data posted on him. Two on rootsweb and one on the LDS site. BUT.......they are stating Hannah's maiden name as Hannah K. Seaver. And they are stating he died 1880 in Kentucky, which must be wrong. So these postings on her maiden name may be wrong but I would suggest you focus your search in the Vermont location, it may yield some answers. Knox Co website shows will executed for Hannah Eads 1898, researchers state her death as 1897. Knox Co courthouse will very likely have her death record and the library has a very good collection of old newspaper on microfilm. You are aware that Hanna's first husband was Curtis K. Harvey? Born in Vermont and died 1848 in Knox Co, IL. And 1870 census shows someone named Seymour Key living with the Eads family and Dorcas Proctor. There is a small mention of Curtis Harvey in a Knox Co biography of his son in law Alfred Craig. It appears that Alfred & his brother in law Curtis Jr were pretty prominent citizens. Perhaps there is a good obituary on the mother Hannah to be found on microfilm at Galesburg Library. Have you gotten her death cert which may state exactly where she was born? ----- Original Message ----- From: Edward Baltzer To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, March 05, 2004 10:13 PM Subject: [ILKNOX-L] Kate (Eads) Stilson; Hannah K ({Proctor) Eads Kate A. I forgot one other reason people might have been going to Hartford, Kansas. In the 1850's the Methodist Conference started a college at Hartford. The first building and the house that was to be for the President of school were completed, when there was a financial decline in the area. The school closed. Both buildings are still standing. The College Building is still used as a community center. Gayle in Kansas
