    3. Sarah, This is what I have in/re Elias WOLF and family: William WOLF(b.1797,NewYork) & Sarah (DAN) WOLF(b.1799,Connecticut) 's children included Elias Dan WOLF(b.1833,Feb.06 Pennsylvania,- d.1903,March22) who married Sarah JOHNSON(b.1843, Ohio,-d.approx.1878, daughter of Rensaleer Johnson, a resident of Knox Co., Illinois). One of their children was Sherman WOLF(b.1871,Ohio). Sarah's sister, Hattie JOHNSON, married J. VANGILDER. One of their children was Emma Rosella VANGILDER(b.1876,Illinois). When Elias wife Sarah died, and Hattie's husband J.VANGILDER died, Elias and Hattie got married. Eventually, Sherman and Emma Rosella married, and they are my Great Grandparents. One of their sons, William Clarence WOLFE, was my grandfather. Children of WilliamWOLF and Sarah (DAN) WOLFE: Elias Dan b.06 Feb.1832,Pennsylvania m.Sarah JOHNSON 25 July,1849,Knox Co.,Illinois (b.1834,Ohio) James b.1830,Bradford Co.,Pennsylvania m.Diantha LIVERMORE 1852 ( b.1836,Knox Co.,Illinois ) others? (Rencelier, Rensselaer, Rensalar, Rensaelar, Rensaleer) JOHNSON, b.1804,Pennsylvania, married Emiline WILKINS (b.lndianna-date unknown). They had children: Sarah JOHNSON,b.1834 in Ohio, and Hattie JOHNSON, b.30August,1850. Sarah married Elias Dan WOLF 25July,1849, in Knox Co.,Illinois according to info at family search.com(don't know how reliable this info is, but it fits with the U.S. 1850 census of Knox Co., Illinois, (Family#1516 Rensaelar JOHNSON--Farmer--age 46 b.Pennsylvania....Emiline JOHNSON-.Wife (no age or place of birth listed)...Elias WOLF--Farmer--age 18 bPennsylvania... .Sarah WOLF--Wife--age 16 (no birthplace listed)... .Eliza.-daughter- age 6/12 (this has to be 6-months. also, no place of birth listed). Also, in the same census of Knox Co., Illinois, I found, as family #1512, EliasWOLF -farmer-age 18 b.Pennsylvania. ..Sarah WOLF-housekeeper-age 16-b.Ohio...Eliza WOLF-age 1/2-born Illinois. They must have been over visiting Sarah's mom & dad when the census man came! Elias DanWOLFE (and yes-the "e" is on the end of the last name by the 1870 U.S.census of Iowa, Cedar Township, Benton Co.,Vinton P.O. & Luzern P.O. --page 10, dwelling #69,family #67) and Sarah are in Iowa by 1870, along with children: Mary J. age 17,b.Illinois, Deantha age 15, b.Iowa, Harriet, age 13, b.Iowa, Wilber age 8, William age 6, and Lincoln age 4. Eliza was not in the 1870 census, so she must have married or died . By the 1880 census Sarah was gone. I figure she died in or around 1878, because Cora Bell was 2 years old in the 1880 census and Elias Dan WOLFE was listed as being widowed. And now, back to Hattie. She married J. VANGILDER (b.Illinois), found in "Statewide Illinois Marriage Records"as Vansilder (could this be a typo?-the s instead of a g?), Jeremiah (this would fit with the 'J) married JOHNSON, Hattie, in Stark Co,Illinois 12-9-1875 (I'm assuming , but maybe I shouldn't, that this would read : 9 December,1875). This came out of Volume 2, page 74, licence #00000146. Emma Rosella VANGILDER was born 01 September,1876,Knox Co, lllinois. This was my Grandma Rose(my great grandma.) She died 08 November,1971,Benkleman, Nebraska. J. VANGILDER was a sea captain and died in a shipwreck, according to my Grandma Ruby WOLFE and others in the family. In the 1880 census of Sefton, Fayette Co., Illinois, Source: FHL Film1254206 National Archives Film T9-0206, page 100D( Info provided to me by Dick Tague, who had been doing "look-ups" for me in the Muscatine,Iowa area), Hattie VANGILDER, age 28, b.Illinois, father b.Pennsylvania, mother b.Ohio, --J.VANGILDER, age 55,b.Ohio, (no info on father or mother),-Rosella VANGILDER, age 3, b.lllinois, father b.Ohio, mother b.Illinois, are living with a family of PATTERSONS! I have NOT a clue as to who these people are. By the 1900 census of Iowa, Fruitland Township,(between Muscatine & Letts) Muscatine Co., date: 5&6 June,1900, supv. dist. #2, sheet #2, enum.Dist. #97), Hattie F. (JOHNSON,VANGILDER) was married to her former brother-in-law Elias Dan WOLFE, and they had a 15 year old son: Newton E. WOLFE, (b.1884,Illinois). As it turned out, Emma Rosella VANGILDER, who was my great grandmother, married her step-brother, Sherman WOLFE, 24 November,1892, Louisa Co., Iowa ("Iowa Marriages, 1851-1900"). By the 1900 Census of Muscatine, Fruitland Co., Iowa, Sherman and Emma had children: Sherman Arthur WOLFE, b Feb.1895, William Clarence WOLFE,b.26 Feb.1897, and Rosa WOLFE, b.June 1899. By the 1820 Census they had moved to Max, Dundy Co., Nebraska. their family now included Donald WOLFE, age 9, b.Kansas, Vada WOLFE, age 5, b. Kansas, and Ruby WOLFE, age under 1 year, b.Nebraska. Rosa WOLFE is nowhere to be found so I'm assuming she married or passed away. By the 1930 Census, they are in Stratton, Hitchcock Co., Nebraska. the family had now grown to include John L. WOLFE, age 28, b. Nebraska (where was he in the 1920 census?). Sherman Arthur WOLFE, and my Grandpa William Clarence WOLFE, had moved out by then and started their own families. I have been told that Sherman Arthur moved North to the Dakota's. My Grandpa was in Max, Dundy Co., Nebraska for the Census with his wife of 10 years, Ruby Carolyn ULFERTS WOLFE, and 3 children, one of them my mother. 1> 8/22/200 1

    3. Beryl, thank you for your response. I would be very interested in any Davis data that you have, including the obituary of Henry Davis. My Davis child was Ann Davis, born 6 June 1827, daughter of James Davis and Martha Edwards. I have also just responded to Tom on the Knox list about this. I am willing to share any items you are interested in, although my research is somewhat meager. I do have David Hall's will (2nd husband of Ann Davis) in which Owen Betterton was the administrator. Also, Ann's death certificate (which was a real find for me......listed her parents!.....that was my only piece of data about them.). Your name and email address are very familiar to me (I know that you are an active participant on the Knox list), however I wonder if you have helped me in the past. I can't remember. Possibly in working on the Betterton line, since Ann Davis' daughter, Amelia Barnard, married John Betterton, son of Owen. I will send my address to your personal email. Thank you again for your offer of help. 3. Saw your post and am curious about your DAVIS surname. My CANNON line connects to a DAVIS line and they came to Knox County. In fact, one of my friends has a journal that we all transcribed and it talks about the early days of Knox County. If it was mine, I could share it with everyone but it is not so I could only share what I know. The line we are connected to is Peter DAVIS and his wife, Sophia CANNON. E-mail me privately at: [email protected] The EDWARDS name is also interesting as there is a RICE / EDWARDS connection and they came to Knox County also. Mine is somewhat meager and in "pieces and guesses", so I had put it away for awhile. It will take me a day or two to get it all back together, but your email spurs me to start delving again. I will write back to you at the email address you sent in your other message. BTW, just this morning I had an email from "Beryl" on the Knox County list who is a Betterton descendant, and has an obit for Henry Davis.....I would be interested in seeing that. I'll respond to her next. I expect you maybe received the same information. My Ann Davis Barnard Hall had a daughter Amelia, who married John Betterton (son of Owen Betterton). Mr. Owen Betterton also was the administrator of Mr. Hall's will (Ann's 2nd husband). So these families are all known to each other. I will check to see what documents I happen to have, and let you know, in case you would like any copies. Margaret

(I checked and none of his brothers are named Willis.) Lewis' father was John Hamrick 1785 in Prince William, VA. Considering the name and general area there may still be a connection further out. I have this family back to a Patrick from Ireland in 16?? who was an indentured cooper. Lewis Hamrick died in Levenworth, KS in a Civil War Veteran's Home. He did a verbal genealogy for a student project that I found online. I'd have to search through my stuff to find the reference. I found it online a long time ago and the details are fuzzy. Finding him helped me find the rest of the family on the Hamrick Geneology site.
