I read with interest your posting regarding Catherine Deal Work. I also have a Catherine Deal in my ancestry. You wrote: Can anyone tell me where Mt. Vernon Cemetery is located? I didn't find it on the Knox County Cemetery list. I am looking for Catherine (Deal) Work who is listed in her father's estate My records indicate: Catherine Minnich Deal, b 10 Dec 1804 Chambersburg, Franklin Cty, PA; married Francis Deal, b 11 Feb 1792; Catherine died 19 Jan 1866 and is buried in Knoxville Cemetery. She is the daugther of Michael Minnick. Do you think this is the same person? You can find this information at Rootsweb.com where I have posted my files/data. I have not fully confirmed the information on this particular individual and am using data received from another researcher. If this is the right person, did Catherine remarry after Francis died? He disappeared from the scene during the Civil War after they had moved to Knox County and it is entirely possible that she did remarry. How do you show as a father to your Catherine? Does the Northern Christian Advocate have information about other ministers of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Illinois? How does one access the records or archives ? Am looking for information on William E Kennedy and any civil war service. He was born in Knox County to Andrew and Mary Kennedy. I have researched the online data for Illinois civil war lists and find one or two entries from surrounding counties; none from Knox County. There are no listings for his siblings in the lists. Does any one know of any website that defines the recruiting practices during the civil war for Knox County? I have no proof whatsoever that he was a soldier; however, I did want to check any possiblity. Barb Jensen Tualatin OR
Can anyone tell me where Mt. Vernon Cemetery is located? I didn't find it on the Knox County Cemetery list. I am looking for Catherine (Deal) Work who is listed in her father's estate. I found a Susie Work who is buried next to her mother in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, but I don't know the mother's given name.
There is a Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Mercer County just south of North Henderson. It is not too far from the Knox County border. The cemetery index for Mt. Vernon (Mercer Co) at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmercer/cem2/mtvernon/w-z.htm lists WORL??. Here is a list of first names under WORL??: Cora Harriet F. Hugh A. May Merta B. Minnie Susie C. Victor William Could these be WORK that you are looking for? You can get more information on these individuals by writing to Nadine Holder through the website. I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as August JOHNNSON which was taken at the Bauman Studio in Galesburg, Illinois. The photograph looks to have been taken in the 1880's with August likely in his 20's at the time. The name is spelled with 2 "N"s on the back of the photograph, however, I believe it is likely JOHNSON. In addition to his name someone has written "My Mother's Brother or My Uncle" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I believe this may be a photograph of August JOHNSON the son of Nels D. & Ellen JOHNSON who were living in Galesburg, Illinois during the 1880 census. The family included three children, August age 12, Emma age 6, and Charles age 4. The census information lists Nels D. age 46 born in Sweden, Ellen age 46 also born in Sweden, and August born in Sweden. The two younger children are listed as born in Illinois so I'm assuming that the family immigrated sometime between 1868 and 1874. Nels was listed as a Broom Maker by trade. I'm hoping to locate someone from this JOHNSON Family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

He was born about 1844 in NY or Vt the son of Peter Wheeler and Elizabeth Pettis. The census states that his father was born Vt and mother in NY, this fits Peter and Elizabeth. A cousin said that our Charles Wheeler was alive in 1928. We found Civil War records that state Charles was listed as missing in action in Spotsylvania, VA May 10, 1864. >

The Indian Point Dawdy-Boydston Cemetery does not list either of these surnames. There is a comment listed: "Many old stones are not legible. Sunken ground indicates more burials with no stones. It is said many have been removed to Abingdon, Illinois Cemetery". The surnames listed in the pamphlet that I have are: Avery, Bell, Bower, Boydston, Landis, Bradley, Darling, Dickerson, Dawdy/Dowdy, Easter, Gossett, Hardy, Killiam, McCord, Meek, Mullies, Riggs, Roe, Rollins. I also have a cemetery pamphlet for Chestnut Twp., to the east of Indian Point. I see the following Smiths: Charles E. - Hermon Methodist Church Ceme. Ella A. " Harvey W. " Martha " infant son " Phillip " William K. " John F. - Hermon Christian Church Ceme. Mary " Allena " Robert E. " Eliza J. " Siniac " Charles " Susannah " George M. - Harper Cemetery, 5 miles west of Maquon Rachel E. " Priscilla I. " I found no Robersons.....only Robison: Catherine - Hermon Methodist Church Ceme. Emily " John " Nina " William H. " Annie - Hermon Christian Cemetery A. R. " Martha E. " I just happened to have these two booklets because of my own family searches.
