a wonderful new resource has been added to the cyberdriveillinois site... http://landplats.ilsos.net/Flash/Welcome.html it covers the sectioning maps of townships throughout the state.. you do had to load MrSID, but clicking on the mrsid icon on this page will give you what you need to view... those familiar with mrsid will have no trouble... but for those that are new to it... when you arrive at the map, you click on the + and then anywhere you click on the map will be enlarged with each click... ditto if you click - if you want to move things, then hit the palm icon and then more the vision with your cursor... you can enlarge these enough to read the 1840's era penmanship... it might at first appear blurry, but in a moment it will clear up.. for those in schaumburg township, county of cook, this 1842 map corresponds to the transcription of the surveyor L D Ewing's notes that i posted last year and which are in our list archives. there are indicators in blue regarding the landscape as found by the surveyor and noted in the transcription.... with this map, you will have a complete package of the sectioning activities of our schaumburg township.... after you have loaded Mrsid, click on enter.. do take the time to trip through each of the tabs... and read the brief history and informationals that are provided... before you go viewing the plats.... understand just what the township is and what those Ranges and Township numbers mean... that you can find at:
