New Publication from the Kane County Genealogical Society Approximately 10 years ago, in an effort to address storage issues, the Kane County Circuit Court began to microfilm probate records and remove the original records to a landfill. Upon learning of this course of action, the Kane County Genealogical Society lead the effort to preserve these valuable documents by coordinating the distribution of the original records to 12 historical societies throughout the county--a 2+ year project. As a result of the distribution, an index revealing the location of the probate records was not readily available. To assist family historians in furthering their research, the KCGS worked with the historical organizations to create an index of the probate court records. >From listings created by some organizations and assisting other societies in the organization of their records, KCGS is proud to announce the newest publication: Index to: Kane County, IL Probate and Guardianship Records, housed in local historical societies. This publication contains approximately 34,000 entries covering the span of probate records from county inception in 1836 through the late 1950's and includes: name or names on the probate file or guardianship file, year of death or guardianship bond, the society housing the original record, and contact information for the organizations holding the records. The spiral book contains 188 pages and costs $35 postage paid for KCGS members or $40 postage paid for non-members. Orders will be delivered after September 7, 2003.
