Hello listers, I have been trying, for a few years now, to find information about HAMMOND STATION in Kane County sometime in the 1800's. Not sure what kind of station it might have been. My gr gr grandmother was a HAMMOND. Any information you can share with me will be appreciated very much. Regards, Pat ~~ Autumdeer2@aol.com
Hammond Station is/was in Cook County, Hanover Township, just east of the Kane County line east of Elgin. The area is now gravel quarries/pits. There is a rail line that runs north and south and Hammond Station was a stop on that line at one time. There is some talk about reviving that rail line for commuter service that would eventually service O'Hare Airport. "Mike" Alft, one of our local historians, has written a book about Hanover Township and Hammond Station is mentioned in that book. I also helped a gentleman from Wisconsin with research regarding the Hammond family. Hope this helps a bit.
