Dear ILKANE subscribers, I am doing research projects on three brothers, Rice Fay, Elijah Fay, and Harrison K Fay who migrated from New England in the 1830's to northern Illinois and Wisconsin, prepatory to putting up webpages on each one at http://fayfamily.org, and am looking for sources and suggestions for further information. Rice Fay in particular is assoiciated with the early history of Kane county. This is what I know so far and it may not be 100% accurate yet. Rice Fay founded Fayville in about 1833 located on section 3 of St Charles township. He was also postmaster there and was among the founders of the Baptist church there. He built the large stone dwelling that was later occuppied by the Keating family. What are the best sources for information on these activities.....old maps, original documents, early histories etc. Is there any historical society etc that is open on weekends that I should use. Rice Fay apparently moved to Elgin in about 1853......but I have no information on him there. I don't know when he died, who his descendants were etc yet. Any ideas for weekend sources for this information? Brother Elijah Fay moved a lot, and is much harder to trace. According to the 1840 census he was in Burnett township, Dodge county Wisconsin. According to the history of a Baptist church in Racine Wisconsin he was in Racine and founded a church there in 1840. According to a third source, which is known to contain errors, Elijah moved by his brother Rice in ELgin (or St Charles) in 1840. I definitely have Elijah voting in the election in Kane county in 1846. I have an enormous amount of information on Elijah before 1840, but have little after his move to Wisconsin in 1837, and some of it is contradictory. Suggestions or information on him would be helpful. For anyone that may be interested in this family, there was a third brother Harrison K Fay who was the first pioneer settler of Mount Pleasant township, Racine county, Wisconsin, and subsequently owned a lumber company in northern Wisconsin. Any ideas, sugestions, or comments anyone?
