    1. [ILKANE] Keating Home in St Charles
    2. Robert W. Fay
    3. Dear Kane county subscribers, I'm doing a bit of research on Rice Fay, an early settler of St Charles, and need a little help. St Charles is about 1 1/2 hours from my home in southern Wisconsin. Saturday I was in the library, and found numerous mentions of Rice Fay in local histories. In one, the "Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois and History of Kane County", Musell Publishing 1904, Chicago, the statement is made on page 718 regarding St Charles "As early as 1834, the beauty of this location and the evident fertility of its soil attracted Rice Fay, a strong enterprising man who settled and long resided upon Section 3, and subsequently erected the fine, substantial stone dwelling, since occuppied by the Keating family." I believe I also saw something at the library from the 1970's that indicated the Keating home was still standing, but may be mistaken. Is this structure still standing? Where is it? If its not still standing, what became of it? Is there any history to go with the home? If it is still standing, I may well come to St Charles tommorrow, July 4th and take some photos. Any other suggestions on other buildings connected with the Fay family? As a general inquiry, are there any other subscribers interested in Rice Fay and his descendants, or Rices brother Elijah Fay and his descendants on the list or still in the area?
