Hi, all. Last year I posted a message asking for help in researching the Kane Co. land records. At that time, no on was able to help, so I thought I'd try again. The Kane Co. land records office in Geneva told me that research must be done in person, and I'm not able to travel to Illinois just to look at the land records. This is the first land office I've found that doesn't accept inquiries by mail. I am requesting a lookup in the grantee index that would include the years 1855-1857, during which time my g-g-grandparents, William and Rosanna O'BRIEN, bought land in Batavia. I would like a copy of the record of the purchase. I don't know the legal description of the land, but it should be listed in the purchase record and this should lead to finding a record of the land's sale, which I am also looking for. (The grantor index can be checked for 1860 to about 1880). These people 'disappear' after the 1860 census and I'm hoping finding out when the land was sold may provide some clues. Please email me if you can help, especially if you've done land record research before. Thank you. - K. B.
