Laura, Have you tried contacting the Gustafson Research Center or the Batavia Historical Society? Terry, Have you tried area church records? They can be extremely helpful in narrowing down time frames in the community and for Swedes, they frequently list a birth place. Another option might be to explore the area libraries through on-line library catalogs and see what's available to you through inter-library loan. LaFox is a pretty small community, perhaps their historical society or Chamber of Commerce (if they have one) could be of some assistance. Thanks, Roy. I've been through most of that site already. I don't think that they owned a farm, so they aren't listed in the landowners sections of the plat/county atlases. Can anyone tell me if I could access archives of the news papers for Batavia and Aurora? I am looking for an obit and would have to search the years from 1900 to 1908. Would the Aurora Beacon have had obits for Batavia? Where in Batavia would someone have been buried besides West Batavia Cemetery? Any help is appreciated. Laura
I'm trying to find my great-great grandfather, MAGNUS JOHNSON, in the 1910 census, but having no luck. Does anyone have access to a Kane County or Geneva or St. Charles directory for that time? The family had lived in the LaFox/Wasco area prior to that time, but I'm hitting the brick wall trying to figure out where they went afterwards. Magnus died in 1917 and is buried at Garfield Cemetery. He was born in Sweden in 1823, though there's nothing to prove that, it's just what's on the grave marker. Any thoughts? Listers, As some of you may already know, the Minnesota Historical Society has an on-line searchable database for deaths that occurred in Minnesota from 1908 to 1996. My Grandfather, Conrad KRENWINKEL, managed 2 farms in Eola, IL in the 1880s-1890s. I have been unable to find information on whose farms he managed and where they were in/near Eola. The 2 men who's signatures are noted on Conrad's First Naturalization papers, November 1880 are Adam SCHAFER and John STRINGER. While these men are not related to me, I am wondering if one of them owned farms Conrad managed. Can anyone help me with this? Also, what schools were in Eola during the 1890s and early 1900s? Thanks everyone. Ricky, I don't have an address. I have a copy of my grandmothers, Lucille Gombeau, ssdi app. and she said on it that she was born in Elgin, Cook County, IL. and a copy of a page of her mothers bible listing the children having been born in Elgin, IL. The only other thing I have before 1920 census is the marriage licence showing my great grandparents were married at St Johns Church in Elgin, Kane County, IL in 1893. I Have not been able to find them in 1900 or 1910 so far. Joanne
