The StC Museum also has pictures there of the Howell Co. but I don't think you can get them online. Their site is http://www.stcmuseum.org/ I grew up in STC and lived there from 30's until 1970's and still return there.. yes, the Howell Co. was in STC in the old Cable Piano Factory Building. My mother worked there early 30's. There is a web site with a picture of it: http://www.st-charles.lib.il.us/history/historicbuildings.htm#bib-it would be listed under Cable Piano and Howel Co. Hi Debbie, I am a volunteer for RAOGK (Randon Acts of Genealogy Kindness) here in Kane County. I would be happy to get you information on persons buried in Bluff City Cemetary. I also take digital pictures of tombstones. Just let me know what you need. Ricky Harris
It may be that my grandfather worked at Howell Co., from 1923-1933 or there about. I am wondering if anyone knows if any records from the company exist. I have read online that it eventually moved to ST. Charles, IL. Is anyone aware of any photos of the company as well? Thank you so much

There is no book listing the people buried in the Bluff City Cemetery. They are in the very long process of entering all the information in their files into their computer. Debbie I am not aware of a book with a list of who's buried in Bluff City [perhaps Gail Borden Library or Elgin Historical Society may have such records], but I am sure if you'd call or write a letter with a self-addressed, stamped envelope enclosed to the office, they'll be glad to help you. I personally paid a visit to this old, beautiful cemetery and received not only gracious assistance by the staff but copies of records of each family member I inquired about. Susan - I'm not sure if this is the business that your grandfather worked for, but it is a possibility. In 1903, both BURGESS-NORTON and the GENEVA FOUNDRY and MACHINE COMPANY were located in Geneva in the area of Stevens Street, Geneva Foundry was later known as the ANDERSON-HICKEY FOUNDRY (www.andersonhickey.com). The old Geneva Foundry and Machine Company building is now incorporated into the current Burgess-Norton Manufacturing Company. All of this information can be found in a book published for Geneva's Sesqicentennial back in 1985. The book is called GENEVA,ILLINOIS - A History of Its Times and Places. Hope this helps. You know, this was all easier when I lived in Chicago! Now that I'm out in Seattle, I'm scrambling. The church records is a good idea, and I'll give that a try. I'm a librarian, so I've already assembled a list of books for ILL this year. I'll give the historical societies a try, too. They can be extremely helpful in narrowing down time frames in the community and for Swedes, they frequently list a birth place. Another option might be to explore the area libraries through on-line library catalogs and see what's available to you through inter-library loan. LaFox is a pretty small community, perhaps their historical society or Chamber of Commerce (if they have one) could be of some assistance.
