    3. Did you know there was such an area? Me either. In case it helps someone, here's a clue to researching Aurora. Kristy Joanne S. Wiener, 84, of Aurora, passed away Friday, June 13, 2003 at her home. She was born July 29, 1918 in Aurora.     Mrs. Wiener was a lifelong resident of Aurora, settling into the original French section of Aurora and attending Sacred Heart School and Church.

Have you tried the townships near Aurora? I don't have them immediately at hand but I'm reasonably sure that going to the Kane Co (genealogy) website would be a quick way to find them. The Fitzsimmons may have lived "almost" in Aurora. Or have you tried searching by using the least common first name only? Gertrude or Trudey or Trudy? Or perhaps one of the children had an unusual name you could use. Then, if the problem is a misspelled version of Fitzsimmons, you will be likely to recognize "Tilgseuuamo" as the right name. (There are sooo many possibilities of letters that get confused for one another.) Good luck and good patience to you! Kristy

    2. This e-mail is concerning a message I received this last week concerning a mausoleum located at the Brookside Cemetery in Mazon (Grundy County) that is scheduled for demolition this June due to lack of funds to restore/rebuild it. Per my message, "the Morris Daily Herald is seeking assistance in finding descendants of those interred since there are no known descendants in this area". Surnames include: Barnes, Cash, Clements, Clithero, Coleman, Davis, Foster, Hadden, Hume, Laase, & Thomas. Please check the Morris Daily Herald at http://www.morrisdailyherald.com for three related articles, including a list of the 22 individuals interred. This message came to me from the St. Charles Public Library. Susan

    1. Re: [ILKANE] Guardianship
    2. Often surviving parents had to apply for guardianship for one of the following reasons: 1. The surviving parent was female. Mothers did not automatically assume role of guardian for their own children. 2. The child was a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or was eligible for government pension. To ensure that the awarded money was handled by a person deemed suitable, a legal guardian (someone bonded and having a good standing in the community) had to be assigned. 3. The child was involved in some litigation, such as receiving real estate, etc. cited in another person's will or lawsuit. Again, it was an issue of showing that the child had representation of a person of good character. I have worked with a number of guardianship files and found that these records can lead to family connections not known. I hope that this has adequately answered your questions. Sincerely, Susan

    1. [ILKANE] Guardianship
    2. I have a general question for the list... ca 1880s, why would a surviving parent have to apply for guardianship of children when the parents were still married and together at the time of the spouses's death? I have found this occurring several times in my research. Any insight would be welcome. Bonnie Bonnie Fletcher Eggert Home Page: Genealogy in the Genes! http://members.aol.com/blgert
