    1. [ILKANE] FW: Meyer/Fees of Oswego
    2. Kim Nelson
    3. I am looking for any information on a Henry Meyer. He was the son of Caroline (Carrie) Meyer Fees. We don't have any information on his father but believe he was illegitimate born in Bavaria Germany. He came to the United States in 1891 or 1892 as a very young child. It is believed he came here with his mother, grandfather (Heinrich Meyer) and his grandmother (Caroline Lacy Meyer). They settled in Aurora, Illinois. ( I am not sure they went directly to Aurora but that is where I was told they lived). His mother married Michael Fees on March 24, 1892 in Aurora Illinois (Kane County). Michael Fees was a farmer in Oswego Illinois and had come to the U.S. in 1887 on the Saale from Germany. (I would also like any info on the Fees family too.) I believe his parents names are Andrew and Fredricka Fees. They lived in Waldeck, Germany. Michael also had 2 sisters that also settled in Oswego by the names of Freterita Fees who married John Hoch on February 10, 1891 and Minnie Fees who married Charles Miller on September 6, 1891. On the 1900 Census it shows Michael (head) born October 1858 and age 43. Caroline (wife) born February 1862 and age 39. Henry (son) born May 1889 and age 11. Michael and Caroline went on to have 2 sons named Otto (he is my great grandfather) and Alfred. They are listed on 1900 census as Otto born on Jan. 29 and age 7. Alfred born on Nov.29 and age 3. Michael and Caroline married 8 years. I never found out what happened to Caroline's parents. Michael and Caroline moved to Hanover township Illinois with Otto and Alfred but I am not sure when. Henry stayed on in Oswego. He is listed on the 1920 census as head and age 30. Anna (wife) age 28. Caroline (daughter) age 5, Francis (daughter) age 3, Margaret (daughter) age 1. On the 1930 census for Oswego Township, Kendall County (image 13) Henry (head) age 40. Anna (wife) age 39, Caroline (daughter) age 14, Frances (daughter) age 12, Margaret (daughter) age 10, Ruth (daughter) age 8, Henry (son) age 6, Betty Jane (daughter) age 2, and Robert Donald (son) age 1 month. Henry is a farmer. Any information on Henry's wife or children would also be of great interest to me. I would be interested in hearing anything about the people I have mentioned. Thank you for your time. Kim Nelson Elgin, Illinois kimnelson57@hotmail.com or knelson@premierrates.com Please post query on the internet. Thank you.

    3. Betty-Jane, Do you know who David Wilson's father was? According to a bio I found my Samuel's father was named Samuel. Also, what part of New York was your family in? I found Samuel in Washington Co, New York ? At this point I don't have David or Truman in my database but then I haven't been able to connect my Wilson to any family. Cheryl

    1. [ILKANE] New Kane County Publication
    2. New Publication from the Kane County Genealogical Society Approximately 10 years ago, in an effort to address storage issues, the Kane County Circuit Court began to microfilm probate records and remove the original records to a landfill. Upon learning of this course of action, the Kane County Genealogical Society lead the effort to preserve these valuable documents by coordinating the distribution of the original records to 12 historical societies throughout the county--a 2+ year project. As a result of the distribution, an index revealing the location of the probate records was not readily available. To assist family historians in furthering their research, the KCGS worked with the historical organizations to create an index of the probate court records. >From listings created by some organizations and assisting other societies in the organization of their records, KCGS is proud to announce the newest publication: Index to: Kane County, IL Probate and Guardianship Records, housed in local historical societies. This publication contains approximately 34,000 entries covering the span of probate records from county inception in 1836 through the late 1950's and includes: name or names on the probate file or guardianship file, year of death or guardianship bond, the society housing the original record, and contact information for the organizations holding the records. The spiral book contains 188 pages and costs $35 postage paid for KCGS members or $40 postage paid for non-members. Orders will be delivered after September 7, 2003. To place an order send a check or money order to: Kane County Genealogical Society P.O. Box 504 Geneva, IL 60134 For more information contact: KCGSinfo@wideopenwest.com

    2. laura/howard
    3. Can anyone tell me if there are death records at IRAD for the years of 1894 and 1900? Would there be coroner's records if someone died on the job or at home for that time period? I am searching for the birth place of one Bernard Linden, b. cir 1847 and one Peter Linden b. 1836. Peter Linden is one of several Peter Linden's in Aurora in my time frame. I have hit a brick wall. I have read film from the area of Luxemburg most of the Luxemburgers came from to no avail. I have places such as Haller, Consdorf, Olinger, Waldbillig and Wasserbillig. Does anyone know of other towns etc. for people from Luxemburg who settled in Aurora? Open to any and all suggestions. TIA, Laura

    3. I can't help you with the undertaker part of your question at this time, but the Elgin City Cemetery was also known as the Channing Street Cemetery. It is no longer in existence and is now a park and the site of one of our elementary schools. When it closed family members were to move their loved ones to other cemeteries, but some were never moved. If you are interested in more info, there is a short history of the cemetery on the Elgin Genealogical Society web site at www.elginarea.org/egs Judy ldever wrote: >Good afternoon all, > >I have received the death certificate of my 3rd great grandfather Orlando >BARR who died in Elgin in December, 1900. 3. Pete, Do you know of a book titled The Ryerson Genealogy: Genealogy and History of the Knickerbocker Families of Ryerson, Ryerse, Ryerss; also Adriance and martense Families; all descendants of Martin and Adriaen Reyersz (Reyerszen), of Amsterdam, Hollan, by Albert Winslow Ryerson? It was privately printed for Edward L. Ryerson, Chicago, 1916. This book is available from Higginson Books (http://www.higginsonbooks.com/) for $69.50. While there is not much about your Theunis in this book, he is there (notice that Tunis is a spelling variation for Theunis) and thus is connected to this family. He is listed as 7th generation from Martin Reyersz and is listed on page 207 as the second child of John Rappelie Ryerson and Martha Steele. All that is noted about him is that he married a Rose A. Anderson. His older brother was Samuel, b May 29, 1826; m Ruth Howell, who was b Dec. 1827. The youngest child is Jane, m a Mr. Bennet, living in Michigan. The father was born in New York City Aug 14, 1805 and he died Mar 12, 1875. Resided in Paterson (I don't know where that would be). I had hoped that the book would have had more information about your Theunis.

    2. I might be getting closer....don't know the possibility of finding birthparents of someone from this era though without knowing which County they were born in. But just received my GGGrandmother's death cert and it lists her birthdate! so that is a bonus. Also lists her as buried at Oakwood Cemetery....I asssume this is the one in Chicago (there are several I found). {Her fosterparents were buried in Graceland Cemetery in Chicago, and there are still family plots available...so don't know why she wasn't buried there too}. Grace Esther Ryerson was born to parents from Scotland (acc'g to 1880 Chicago Census) on May 5, 1868. She was adopted by Tunis Ryerson (from NJ) and Rose Anderson (from Canada) before 1871 (Tunis died in July 1871). They had been living in Muskegon, Michigan. I can't pinpoint the families locations. Tunis and Rose came to Illinois and there is suggestion they lived in Chicago. However, Tunis died in Elgin, Kane in 1871. He was buried at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago. Rose remarried to Robert Forrester and lived in Chicago (with Grace too). Grace married Samuel Edward Davis (from Alton, Madison) in Cook County in 1887. He was a creamery businessman in Chicago (South Water Street I've been told). They had four children, one was born in Elgin, Kane....another lived in Geneva, Kane (so I assume they all were in that area). Rose died in 1904 in Bloomington. According to Graceland Cemetery records, S Edward Davis and Grace lived at 15 Porter Ave, Elgin, Kane from 1905-1915 and 920-926 E 44th Street Chicago, Cook from 1916-1942. Grace's death certificate says they lived at 1426 Hyde Park Blvd, Chicago, Cook (16 Dec 1917). Samuel Edward remarried to Mabel around 1924. Graceland says he died in 1945, notes from deceased daughter says he died around 1928..in either case, haven't traced him. ....so it appears that the family was in Chicago, Cook and Elgin, Kane (& Rose was also in Bloomigton, McLean) Pete Hanson
